Borovnice combines a protected farmstead ensemble, stone memorials, and marked trails in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus on local history and architecture or follow the hiking and cycling routes.

Farmsteads and Local History

The Borovnice No. 36 farmstead ensemble is a very well-preserved and exceptionally valuable heritage site, exemplifying a monumental, two-storey brick village house built after the mid-19th century. Its regionally characteristic courtyard is enclosed on all four sides. The ensemble has been protected as a cultural monument since September 17, 2024. Brick farmsteads have also been preserved in Borovnice, documenting the region’s folk architecture.

The large rural estate at No. 36 includes a stone cross dating from the second half of the 19th century. It documents the development of housing, as well as the life and livelihood of a wealthier farmer in the Žďárské vrchy. The farmstead and the cross thus offer different insights: the ensemble shows the layout of a village house, while the cross is associated with a farmer’s way of life and work.

The low Tříkrálový kámen is located in the center of Borovnice and comes from Svratka. A relief of Jan Hus, created by sculptor Julius Pelikán, was added in 1920. The years 1415, 1915, and 1918 are carved into the stone. This allows you to consider the stone, relief, and dates as specific details of local history.

The Chapel of St. Joachim and St. Anne dates from 1900. Another historic feature of the area is the Francis turbine at Feltlův mlýn: it dates from 1911 and is still in operation. As its operating status may change, check before your trip whether the turbine is still running. If you would like to rent Francisův Lokál for a special occasion, please check its current availability.

Landscape and Trails

Borovnice lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area and on a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Prosička Natural Monument is also located in the cadastral area of Borovnice u Jimramova. It protects a geomorphologically distinctive gneiss rock complex: a rock wall at the summit surrounded by block scree. So, in addition to local landmarks, visitors interested in the landscape can find a specific geological feature here. Near Borovnice, the Svratka can be understood as a natural boundary between Bohemia and Moravia.

Cyclists can also follow a numbered route: Cycle Route No. 4025 passes through Borovnice. A hiking trip from Telecí reaches the village via Cycle Route No. 4106. These details refer to different routes and can be distinguished in your planning according to your preferred activity. Check the current route before setting out, as route information may change.

This gives you a clear point of distinction when choosing where to stay: the farmstead ensemble, cross, and Tříkrálový kámen represent Borovnice’s cultural and historical side; the marked trails and Prosička offer options for hiking and nature-focused visits. You can compare these priorities with the relevant routes and the architectural and landscape features described here.
