Lovečkovice: Railway, Trails and Historic Buildings
Accommodation in Lovečkovice
Lovečkovice brings together railway history, marked trails and historic buildings. The municipality is also home to the CHKO České středohoří protected landscape area. When planning your stay, you can choose from a range of highlights: an exhibition in a former railway station, a themed coal trail, protected landscapes and traditional building styles.
Railway History at the Minimuzeum
The Minimuzeum Lovečkovice is housed in a former railway station building. The building was saved from demolition and renovated by the municipality of Lovečkovice together with the Zubrnická muzeální železnice. The Minimuzeum features an exhibition about this railway. Visitors can also ride a historic handcar on the grounds. This brings together several ways of exploring the railway theme in one place: the former station building, the exhibition and an activity involving a historic rail vehicle.
The history of the local line can also be placed in context. The Velké Březno–Lovečkovice–Verneřice/Úštěk railway line was ceremonially opened on 18 August 1890. This should be distinguished from the later designation of a section of the line: Velké Březno–Zubrnice–Lovečkovice was listed as an immovable cultural monument in 1998. The year 1890 therefore marks the opening of the line, while 1998 marks the protected status of the specified section.
Uhelná stezka and Marked Trails
If you would rather focus on a trail than the exhibition, you can include the Uhelná stezka in your plans: it starts at the Minimuzeum Lovečkovice. The route is almost 4.5 kilometres long, marked with yellow tourist signs and has eight stops. The stops explore local history and coal mining. They give the trail a thematic focus, while its length and number of stops help you plan it as a separate activity.
Several marked hiking trails also lead from Lovečkovice to Sedlo. Its summit area is protected as a national nature reserve and is home to rare flora. This offers two different kinds of hiking: the Uhelná stezka, with its eight stops on local history and coal mining, and the marked trails leading to the protected summit area. The municipality of Lovečkovice is also home to the extensive CHKO České středohoří protected landscape area.
Views from Above Náčkovice
Another viewpoint is located above the municipality of Náčkovice: Víťova vyhlídka, built in 2003. It is 21 metres high and stands at an elevation of 616 metres; its viewing platform is 8.5 metres above the ground. From there, views extend towards Teplice, Ústí nad Labem, Roudnice, Štětí, Mělník and Doksy, as well as as far as Ještěd. These views give the viewpoint a different character from the trails that lead to Sedlo.
Historic Building Styles in Lovečkovice
The town’s historic buildings offer a range of architectural features. Cottage No. 17 is a traditional timber building dated 1818 and is listed as an immovable cultural monument. The protected property at House No. 74 is listed as a complex comprising the house, the stables and the land. House No. e. 46 is considered a valuable, authentically preserved example of a two-storey timber house from the first half of the 19th century.
Another valuable example of traditional architecture is a through-passage barn made of smooth-rendered brickwork with pillars. The different building styles are easy to distinguish: Cottage No. 17 and House No. e. 46 are notable for their timber construction, while the barn is defined by its rendered brickwork and pillars. The protected complex at House No. 74 adds an ensemble of a building, stables and land to these examples. Together with the former railway station building, these offer several distinct points of interest for anyone interested in Lovečkovice’s architectural history as well as its trails and landscape.
