Křimov: Hiking Trails, Reservoir and St. Anne's Church
Accommodation in Křimov
Křimov combines hiking and cycling routes with a rich history of church architecture. A yellow-marked hiking trail runs alongside the railway line and forms a circular route between Křimov, the Křimov Reservoir and the Bezruč Valley. There are also cycling routes with different itineraries and destinations. When planning your trip, be sure to check the access rules at the reservoir.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
The yellow-marked hiking trail forms a circular route between the three landmarks mentioned above. Its course alongside the railway line gives the route a clear connection to the local railway. This makes Křimov, the reservoir and the Bezruč Valley the central points of the hiking route.
Two cycling tour descriptions are particularly specific: Cycling Route 3008 starts at Křimov stop and leads to the former Third Mill in the Bezruč Valley. Another cycling tour runs from Chomutov through the Bezruč Valley, the Křimov Reservoir, Nová Ves and Výsluní, and loops around the reservoir. The descriptions differ mainly in their structure: Route 3008 names a starting point and destination, while the other tour lists a sequence of places and describes a route around the reservoir. This will help you choose the route description that best suits your plans.
The Reservoir and Nature in the Wider Surrounding Area
The Křimov Reservoir serves mainly as a drinking water reservoir for Chomutov. The water surface and dam are not freely accessible; public access to Protection Zone I is prohibited. Keep these restrictions in mind if you include the reservoir as a landmark when planning your route.
In the wider region around Křimov, near the eastern edge of Krásná Lípa, lies the small Krásná Lípa Natural Monument protected area. The endangered pasqueflower (Pulsatilla patens) grows there. The area is considered the only known site of this species at the foot of the Ore Mountains.
The remains of the lost Hausberk Castle are also in the wider surrounding area: they are located on Zámecký vrch, about one kilometre north of Krásná Lípa. Together with the natural monument, this area offers a different perspective on the region from the paths and buildings in Křimov itself.
St. Anne's Church and Historic Buildings
St. Anne's Church was built in the mid-14th century and was originally Gothic. It was extensively remodelled around 1530. The west portal, vault and windows in the presbytery date from this period. The presbytery also has a defensive upper storey with slit windows in its east and south walls. The architectural details bring different aspects of the building to life: the original church, its remodelling and the defensive design of the upper storey.
A single-storey Baroque rectory dating from the last third of the 18th century stands south of the church. The church, with its medieval history and remodelling around 1530, can thus be contrasted with a considerably newer building. Another listed monument in Křimov is a reconciliation cross by the roadside near house number 47.
Seasonal Historic Train Journeys
LOKO-MOTIV organises public special services, including traditional historic railcar trains. They operate during the summer holidays from Klášterec nad Ohří via Chomutov and Křimov to Vejprty and back. Unlike the hiking and cycling routes described for the local area, this journey covers several places and continues beyond Křimov as far as Vejprty. If you would like to include the train journey in your travel plans, check the specific dates and times in advance.
