Chotiměř can be explored through its landscape, cultural heritage and railway connections. If you are looking for a hotel in Chotiměř, you can first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your trip: views of the surrounding peaks, historic buildings or a specific event date.

Landscape around Chotiměř

From Chotiměř, you can enjoy views of the surrounding peaks of Kletečná, Kubačka, Lovoš and Milešovka. Orchards, agricultural land and nearby forests shape the surrounding area. The Chotiměřský Stream flows through the village. It joins the Milešovský Stream, which then flows into the Labe.

The nearby Oparenské Valley is about 6 km long and stretches from Velemín to Malé Žernoseky. The Milešovský Stream flows through the valley; it is also home to wet meadows and metamorphic and igneous rocks exposed by erosion. Marked trails and a tourist railway connect the valley with Chotiměř. Both the views of the peaks and the valley with its distinctive landscape features can therefore provide starting points for planning your trip.

Chapels, Mill and Castle

The local cultural heritage includes the Baroque Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk, dating from the late 18th century. A chapel stands on Opuce, on the road from Chotiměř to Velemín; in 2022, it was restored to its original form. It was probably built around the mid-19th century using an older stone cross that had been erected there in 1759.

The tradition of two fortresses in Chotiměř is also reflected in the present-day municipal flag and coat of arms: it inspired their design. The ruins of Oparno Castle stand above the Oparenské Valley and date from the 13th century. The restored Oparenský Mill is also known as Konradsmühle and Deutschmühle and serves as an environmental education centre. This means that the area is home both to historic buildings and to a place with a present-day educational role.

Events and Railway Connections

The Chotiměřský Masopust was held for the seventh time in 2026, with a parade through the village. The T-Mobile Olympic Run was held in Chotiměř in 2021 and again in 2026. Its routes were designed for children and adults and ran through the Oparenské Valley. The events differ in format: the Masopust included a parade through the village, while the routes through the valley were a defining feature of the run. If you are travelling for a specific event, check the relevant dates.

The Lovosice–Teplice railway line runs near Chotiměř. The Oparenský Express currently runs along part of this more than 120-year-old railway line in Bohemia, reaching Chotiměř. If you are planning to take the train, check the current timetable: services and times may change.
