Bořislav lies in the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area and is an old Slavic settlement in a hilly landscape of dramatically shaped slopes. Its cultural character includes the church, rectory and stone monuments, as well as the Cesta přátelství sculpture trail. The trail runs from Bořislav and Černčice via Bílka to the foot of Milešovka, adding a different note with its modern sculptures than the individual buildings in the village.

The Church and Its History

Kostel sv. Kateřiny is one of Bořislav’s state-protected monuments. The original church dates from 1384; the present building was constructed in 1717 and restored in 1820. The rectangular building has a single nave and a separate presbytery; the sacristy adjoins it on the south side. With its imposing bell tower, the Baroque church is a prominent landmark on the E55 long-distance route between Teplice and Lovosice.

Baroque Buildings and Stone Monuments

The Baroque rectory is a two-storey building dating from 1733, with a mansard roof. On the main road in the municipality stands a Baroque sandstone column with a Pietà; it remains in its original location and dates from 1720. Its details include a Corinthian capital and a small sculpture of the Bohosudov Pietà. On the village square stands the stone Calvary cross from 1801. It depicts Christ on the cross, Mary Magdalene and a skull entwined by a snake. The two monuments make different impressions: the column can be described by its material, capital and Pietà figure, while the Calvary monument is defined by its figurative depiction. The chronology spans the church’s origins in 1384 to the restoration of the present building in 1820. In between are the Pietà column of 1720, the rectory of 1733 and the Calvary cross of 1801. Their locations offer different points of reference: the church is a landmark on the E55, the column stands on the main road and the Calvary cross is on the village square.

Cesta přátelství and Cycling Plans

Cesta přátelství offers a different kind of cultural experience: it is a sculpture trail featuring 14 modern sculptures by Czech and German sculptors. The route runs from Bořislav and Černčice to Bílka, then continues as a shared route to the foot of Milešovka. For your trip, two clearly distinct cultural highlights are available: local architectural and stone monuments, and modern sculpture along a route.

Cycling Routes as a Planning Option

For cycling, the municipality also lists two specific documents: “cyklotrasy-okolo-borislavi.pdf” on cycling routes around Bořislav and “borislav-lovosice.pdf” on a cycling route between Bořislav and Lovosice. Check whether the documents are available before setting off. They cover different areas: one document focuses on routes around Bořislav, while the other names the connection to Lovosice. This lets you choose the document that matches your intended point of reference.
