Zastávka combines a rich mining history with excursions on foot, by bike, and on the narrow-gauge railway. The local permanent exhibition, mining history, and walking and cycling trails offer different starting points for planning your trip. If you would first like to get your bearings, you’ll find the Regionální informační centrum Zastávka right next to the railway station building.

Mining History and Local Life

The permanent exhibition in the premises of the Regionální informační centrum Zastávka documents the development of hard-coal mining in Zastávka. Its topics also include the history of local industrial companies, schools, sports clubs, and theatre groups. Alongside industrial history, it therefore offers a glimpse into other aspects of local life. Admission to the exhibition is free; check the current visitor arrangements before your visit.

The Chapel of sv. Jana Křtitele also tells the story of a building put to different uses over time. It was first a dwelling, then a guild room and shop; in 1911, it was converted into a chapel and consecrated. The sequence of uses makes the chapel a different way to explore local history than the mining sites.

The Důl Julius mine had its own coal-washing plant, briquette factory, steam winding engine, and cableway. The Hornické slavnosti (Mining Festival) commemorates the town’s mining past: it takes place every year on September 9, on Miners’ Day. The program may vary from year to year. If you’d like to time your stay to coincide with the event, check the program for that year.

Cycling Loop, Walking Trail, and Forest Park

The 35 km Kolem Bobravy a Bučína cycling loop, following routes 5171 and 5172, starts and ends in Zastávka. Check the route details before setting out, as they may change.

A walking trail follows a forest path alongside the narrow-gauge railway to the former grounds of the Důl Ferdinand mine. The trail thus links the forest and railway history with a former mining site. Trail conditions may change, so check the route before setting out.

The forest park in Zastávka offers a different setting from the routes mentioned above: it is a quiet place for a walk or a rest, with benches. If you’re looking for somewhere to linger as well as a longer loop, you can plan the park as a separate stop.

Narrow-Gauge Railway and a Visit to the Information Centre

Zastávka has a second railway station for the narrow-gauge railway operated by the Muzeum průmyslových železnic. From there, small trains run to Zbýšov. The museum also offers train rides in both directions between Zbýšov-Důl Jindřich and Zastávka u Brna. Services are seasonal and depend on the schedule; check the timetable before planning your trip around them.

If you’re travelling with children, the Minihernička Permoníček at the Regionální informační centrum Zastávka offers games and toys while you spend time in the café. If you want to plan a visit to the play corner, check in advance whether it will be available.
