Trnové Pole lies in a gently rolling landscape shaped by extensive fields. At the same time, former place names, an earlier village site, and preserved monuments tell the story of the municipality. This gives visitors two distinct ways to plan their time: exploring the surrounding area or discovering the town’s historic traces.

Landscape and Orientation

Trnové Pole lies in the Dyjsko-svratecký úval, between the Trnovopolská svodnice and Suchý potok waterways. The gentle hills and expansive fields define the landscape, while the two waterways provide specific natural landmarks. The Dyjsko-svratecký úval defines the wider regional setting, while the hills, fields, and waterways shape the local landscape. Those seeking a rural setting will find a combination of open fields and a named landscape region here. The II/415 is also a useful point of reference: it runs through Trnové Pole, connecting the I/53 with Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou here.

Local History and Former Names

The place names tell a story of change: Trnové Pole was originally known as Dornfeld and later as Drnopole. The first written reference to Trnové Pole dates to 1785. According to local history, the former village stood a few hundred meters to the east, in the direction of Vlasatice. During the Napoleonic campaign, it was struck by a plague epidemic that wiped out almost the entire original population. The survivors founded Trnové Pole at its present location.

The year 1785 marks the first written reference; the account of the former village site, by contrast, concerns its relocation. The names Dornfeld and Drnopole add a changing succession of names to this history. The year, the location, and the sequence of names can therefore be understood as different aspects of the town’s history.

Wayside Shrine and Other Monuments

A wayside shrine is preserved on the edge of Trnové Pole. It stands on the road to Jiřice and is a solid, prism-shaped structure with shallow niches on every side. As an important historical monument of the municipality, it gives the town’s history a tangible architectural form. A niche chapel is also one of the local attractions, and a cross is preserved on the edge of town. Together, these monuments represent different forms of religious memorial.

Cycling and Hiking Routes

Cycling and hiking offer different ways to explore this landscape. The “Za půvaby úvalu” cycling route passes through Trnové Pole and continues to Jiřice u Miroslavi; there are also cycling routes in the surrounding area. Local hiking trails are suitable for nature outings. The options differ in focus: the cycling route leads to a named destination beyond the town, while the hiking trails offer nature outings. This can help you decide whether to focus on a specific cycling route or a nature walk.
