Olomučany lies on the northwestern edge of the Drahanská vrchovina in hilly terrain, on the edge of the Moravský kras Protected Landscape Area. Much of its cadastral area is covered by mixed forests. The terrain and forests shape the surroundings, which also feature several natural and cultural attractions for a range of interests.

Forests, Springs and Views

The Lesnický Slavín landscape area is home to numerous forest springs, most of which have been restored and are well maintained. Almost all the springs around Olomučany are popular destinations and can be reached on foot or by bicycle. A well-maintained forest park surrounds the U srnce spring. For orientation, it is worth distinguishing between the landscape area, with its many springs, and the forest park by the individual U srnce spring. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Máchův památník is located roughly in the middle of the Lesnický Slavín landscape area, at an elevation of 508 metres. In good visibility, views extend to the Pálava Hills and the nearest peaks of the Austrian Alps. This viewpoint adds a named destination with a known elevation and long-distance views to the forest springs.

Hiking and Cycling Trails

Hiking and cycling routes around Olomučany connect directly to trails leading into and out of the Moravian Karst. This creates a direct trail connection between local routes and the Karst. The “Cyklovýlet ve stínu Kojálu” cycling tour is suitable for mountain bikes, e-bikes, gravel bikes, trekking bikes and road bikes. The route connection and the tour’s suitability for different types of bicycle offer two distinct points of reference for planning.

Castles, Ceramics and Local History

The ruins of Čertův hrádek and Nový hrad lie within the cadastral area of Olomučany. At Čertův hrádek, a significant geological and geomorphological formation, along with remnants of natural fir-beech stands, is protected. Nový hrad is a highly significant castle complex that has been continuously used for various purposes since the 14th century. The two destinations therefore offer different highlights: protected natural features at Čertův hrádek and a long history of use at Nový hrad.

Ceramics were made in the municipality of Olomučany in the second half of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. A permanent exhibition about them is housed in the municipal office. It can be visited by arrangement with the municipal office; arrange a time before your visit.

The Kostel Božského Srdce Páně church was built in 1939–1940. It adds a 20th-century building to the castles and ceramics theme.
