If you are looking for a hotel in Našiměřice, local highlights can help you choose your destination. The historical focus is especially clear: a Gothic church with several construction phases, a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, and the village’s earlier history. Route I of the Znojemská Wine Trail also passes through the village, offering a distinct perspective for planning your trip.

The Church of Saint Giles

The Church of Saint Giles is a significant Gothic religious building dating from the second quarter of the 14th century. It retains authentic architectural elements. The complex comprises the church, cemetery, perimeter wall, and gate, and is located in the southern part of Našiměřice. The building and its grounds therefore offer a tangible reference point for the village’s architectural history.

Extensive structural alterations were made to the church in 1730. These included rebuilding the sacristy and installing a spiral staircase leading to the bell tower. The medieval construction and later alterations can thus be understood as distinct building phases. Details about the sacristy and tower also illustrate which parts of the building were affected by the work.

Sculpture and early village history

The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands on a grassy area on the east side of the village square. The religious sculpture, dating from the mid-18th century, is carved from shell limestone. It is considered an important monument of the municipality and evidence of high-quality South Moravian sculpture. Together with the older church, it shows that the village’s cultural monuments belong to different periods.

The cemetery next to the church is also part of the village’s historical character: it has been in use from the Middle Ages to the present day. In addition, the medieval and early modern core of Našiměřice is designated as an area with archaeological finds. The historical picture therefore extends beyond individual buildings to encompass the central area of the village.

Another trace of the village’s early history is the Našiměřice fortress. It was probably built between 1236 and 1244 under Vlk of Našiměřice. The fortress itself has disappeared completely; only a faint relief remnant in the form of a small mound survives at its core. The dating is considered probable, distinguishing it from the clearly specified construction date of the church. To understand the site, both the fortress’s early, uncertainly dated history and the more precisely dated building history of the religious structure are relevant.

Landscape and cycling route

Našiměřice lies in a depression in the extensive, fertile Dyjskosvratecké nížiny lowland, at an elevation of 217 metres above sea level. The depression describes the landscape setting, while the elevation adds a specific figure to this orientation. The village’s geographical context thus complements its historic buildings.

For cyclists, Route I of the Znojemská Wine Trail is another point of interest: it passes through Našiměřice and is 47 kilometres long in the Znojmo region. The main route runs mostly through flat and hilly terrain and follows class II and III roads as well as field tracks. For planning your rides, both the distance in the Znojmo region and the route’s described character are relevant. As conditions may change, check them before setting off.
