Lysice combines a distinctive castle complex with a hilly landscape rich in forests and meadows. The Baroque castle, terraced garden and trails through the surrounding area offer different ways to plan your stay: you can focus on historic architecture and gardens, or consider Lysice as a starting point for hikes and bike rides.

Landscape and Trails Around Lysice

The town lies on the edge of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The landscape around Lysice is characterised by hills, forests, meadows and scenic views. Together with the neighbouring Halasovo Kunštátsko and Svratecká vrchovina nature parks, Lysicko Nature Park forms a system of protected landscapes that serves to preserve the unspoilt countryside.

Marked hiking and cycling trails lead through Lysice and the surrounding countryside. There is also a specific destination for a hike: a marked trail passes through the town to the ruins of Rychvald Castle. The nearby remains consist of fragments of walls and filled-in cellars. If you are interested in historic sites, you will find a different impression here than at the preserved castle in Lysice: at Rychvald, the remaining sections of wall and cellars mark the site of the former castle. Trail conditions can change; check them before your trip.

Lysice Castle and Its Garden

Lysice Castle has been a national cultural monument since 2002. The Baroque building stands on the site of a Renaissance water castle and has richly furnished interiors. Guided tours take you through the state rooms. The castle courtyard, on the other hand, can be visited without a guide. There is another option for the garden and orangery: the terraced castle garden and adjoining orangery are open to visitors, although access arrangements may vary depending on the season.

The garden includes a promenade colonnade and a covered pergola. These features give the visit a focus of its own alongside the castle’s architecture: the colonnade is designed as a promenade, while the pergola is covered. The castle also houses a permanent exhibition about the writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. As access arrangements can change and the exhibition’s status should be checked again before travelling, it is advisable to check the latest visitor information in advance.

Church and Historic Traces

The Church of St Peter and Paul is also one of the historic sights in Lysice. It is one of the oldest churches in the area and was first mentioned in 1390. It is accessible during services. If you would like to visit the church, check the service schedule beforehand, as access is limited to these times.

The ruins of Rychvald Castle add to the history of the surrounding area and should not be confused with Lysice Castle. A marked hiking trail passes through Lysice on the way to the ruins; at the site, fragments of walls and filled-in cellars make up the surviving remains. When planning your visit, you can therefore distinguish between touring the furnished rooms of the castle and following a trail to the structural remains of a castle.

Events and Outdoor Swimming Pool

The castle hosts annual concerts as part of Concentus Moraviae, an international music festival held in Moravian towns. The traditional Zámecké feérie, featuring numerous cultural events, are also held there in June. Dates and programmes may vary; check them before travelling if you would like to include a concert or event in your visit.

Another leisure option is the Lysice outdoor swimming pool on Zámecká Street. It has a snack bar and a children’s area. The bar may be available seasonally; also check the latest information about the children’s area before your visit. The possible highlights of a stay in Lysice therefore differ considerably: the castle and garden, marked trails, cultural events or the outdoor swimming pool each offer their own reason to visit.
