Kozlany appeals to travelers who consider the rural setting, local history, and cycling when choosing where to stay. The Chapel of Saint Florian, the statues nearby, and the preserved entrance gate of a former Baroque manor house all reflect Kozlany’s local history. There is also the Cukrovarská dráha cycling and walking route project, as well as the hilly surroundings of Kozlany, characterized by numerous fields.

Cycling: completed section and planned project

A section of the Cukrovarská dráha cycle route has already been completed within the cadastral area of Kozlany. The wider project is still being implemented, so the completed section should not be mistaken for a fully realized route. The planned cycling and walking connection between Vyškov and Kozlany is intended to follow approximately the route of the former sugar railway branch line. Sugar beets were transported along this branch line to the Vyškov sugar factory. This former transport function also gives the planned route an industrial-history connection. If you are planning to visit Kozlany by bike, check in advance which sections are relevant to your particular trip.

Chapel, statues, and local history

The Chapel of Saint Florian first appears in the Moravian Indication Sketch from 1837–1843; the present building is believed to have been constructed in the 1840s. The dates refer to different aspects: the first documentation, on the one hand, and the presumed construction of the present building, on the other. A statue of the Virgin Mary stands beside the chapel. Nearby is also an 18th-century statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Together, the chapel and statues form a historical focal point. In terms of age, the 18th-century statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is older than the present chapel, which is believed to date from the 1840s.

Another historic building in Kozlany is the preserved entrance gate of a former Baroque manor house. The gate complements the religious landmarks with an example of the town’s former aristocratic architecture. Those interested in historic architectural styles can take in this secular landmark alongside the chapel and statues.

Landscape and memorial trees

Kozlany has a group of nine memorial lime trees. The town lies below the western peaks of the Orlovická vrchovina uplands; its surroundings are hilly and characterized by numerous fields. While the chapel and manor-house gate evoke the town’s history, the hills and fields provide a connection to the landscape. This lets you choose between architecture and history on the one hand, and nature and landscape on the other, when planning your travel interests.

Music as a reason to travel

KELNAROVY KOZLANY is a brass band festival. If you would like to plan your stay around the event, check the date for your travel year in advance.
