Zliv lies on the northwestern shore of Bezdrev, a pond used for recreation. To the west of the town, Zlivský rybník borders the area along the railway line. The two bodies of water therefore offer different geographical reference points for your stay: Bezdrev is the focus for water activities and marked routes, while Zlivský rybník lies on the western side of town.

Activities and routes at Bezdrev

Swimming, yachting, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing are popular at Bezdrev. Options range from water sports to fishing. Deciding which of these matters most to you can help you plan how to spend your time in the area. The pond is associated not only with activities on the water: several marked hiking and cycling routes also run around Bezdrev.

One of the routes is a circular trail across the dam and along the northern shore. There are also routes between Hluboká nad Vltavou, Zliv and Munice. This gives you a choice between a loop around the pond and routes connecting several places. These descriptions refer to different routes, so plan your trip according to the specific route you want to take.

Two different cycling connections with Zliv are also mentioned: the “Včelařská stezka” cycling route passes through the town. Another cycling tour starts in Zliv and runs alongside Mydlovarský rybník. When choosing, you can distinguish between a route that passes through Zliv and one that starts there. Both descriptions place the town within the regional cycling network, but they do not refer to the same tour.

Church and local history

A cultural point of interest in the town is the Church of St. Wenceslas (sv. Václava), built in the Neo-Gothic style. Neo-Gothic architecture revives Gothic forms in a later style. The church thus offers a different perspective on Zliv from its ponds and routes: here, the focus is on a specific building rather than an outdoor activity.

Two past events also illustrate different aspects of local life. On 3 May 2019, Základní umělecká škola Zliv hosted the 22nd regional guitar competition, “Zlivská kytara.” The fifth edition of the “Zlivská stovka” firefighter competition took place at the SK Zliv stadium on 22 April 2023. The competition included a 100-metre obstacle course. Both dates and editions refer to past events, so they do not indicate future dates.

Getting there and choosing your stay

Zliv railway station is on line 190 between České Budějovice and Strakonice, which continues to Plzeň. This gives you a specific rail connection to use as a reference when planning your journey. Train services and timetables can change, so check the current timetable before you travel.

When choosing between hotels in Zliv, it can help to start by considering what you plan to do: do you want to focus on swimming, windsurfing or fishing at Bezdrev, choose a marked hiking or cycling route, or plan your trip around travelling by train? If you are interested in culture, you can also consider the Neo-Gothic church and documented historical events as topics for your stay. This helps you tailor your search to the reason for your trip without conflating different routes or past event dates.
