Řasnice lies in the Řasnice Valley between Horní Vltavice and Strážný, about 3 km east of Strážný. The village’s location connects it to a specific river valley and to the settlement history of the Golden Trail. When choosing a hotel, you can consider whether historic architecture, the protected landscape or a route through the surrounding area is most important for your stay.

In the Řasnice Valley

The settlement lies on the lower slope of a narrow section of the Řasnice Valley. The boundary of Šumava National Park runs through Řasnice along the river. Here, the village and the protected landscape meet directly. If you plan to travel off the trails, check the course of the national park boundary beforehand.

The Splavské rašeliniště Natural Monument lies between Strážný and Řasnice. It protects a valley peat bog with characteristic vegetation and is part of the nearby natural area, not the settlement itself. This allows you to consider the river setting in Řasnice and the peat bog as two distinct aspects of the surrounding area.

The Golden Trail and local history

Řasnice probably originated around 1720; it was first mentioned in 1790. The buildings developed along the route of the Golden Trail between Vimperk and Strážný. Historically, Řasnice is classified as a loosely arranged, short forest-strip settlement. The term describes the loose layout and short extent of this type of settlement.

Remnants of the Vimperk branch of the Golden Trail are also part of the surrounding area’s historic landscape. Near Strážný, there is an almost 1 km-long system of preserved trail remnants. Its end lies about 100 m north of the Řasnice stream. The village’s line of buildings and the remnants near Strážný thus provide two different spatial connections to the history of the trail.

The former name Pumperle derives from a water pumping station and the word “pumpe” (pump). This name history offers another distinct perspective on the village’s past: alongside the settlement pattern and route, it focuses on the water pumping station.

Preserved architectural styles

The preserved complex of the former Salzer Mill in Řasnice comprises the mill and two associated houses. The former mill on the Řasnice retains its original structure and numerous characteristic details. Houses Nos. 20 and 24 are also among the village’s best-preserved buildings. These specific buildings and their architectural features give the village’s history a visible architectural dimension.

The original residential buildings in Řasnice belonged to the Šumava log-house type. Shingles were used both as roof covering and to clad the vertical weather-facing walls. If you are interested in traditional architecture, these details highlight two aspects: the house type and the versatile use of the material. The mill complex, in turn, represents a preserved ensemble with associated houses and characteristic details.

The Řasnatá Vltava route

The Řasnatá Vltava route passes through Lenora, Vlčí Jámy, Řasnice, the Splavské rašeliniště and the Radvanovický hřbet before returning to Lenora. For planning, it is worth considering the route information and the order of the places together: Řasnice is part of this route, while the nearby peat bog is identified as a separate landscape feature.

The route has moderate ascents and descents, with steep sections in places. It also includes stretches of soft ground, slippery stones, tall grass, forest paths and fallen trees to climb over. Conditions vary by season. Both elevation changes and the terrain and obstacles are therefore relevant to planning; the description provides specific details to consider alongside the places along the route.

Řasnice thus combines a clearly described valley setting with a local history reflected in its settlement pattern, trail remnants and preserved buildings. If you are looking for a hotel, you can focus your search on the village and decide whether you would like to connect your stay primarily with its architecture or with the route through the surrounding area described here.
