When planning a stay in Nuzice, two specific themes go hand in hand: the landscape around Židova strouha and the historic village layout. Marked hiking trails, rock faces, and a preserved regular village square provide a sense of direction, while archaeological remains also shape the character of the place. Depending on whether you are particularly focused on the trails or local history when choosing your stay, different aspects of Nuzice come to the fore.

Gorge Landscape and Trail Orientation

The Židova strouha natural monument area extends into the cadastral area of Nuzice. The geological site near Nuzice forms a gorge-like valley with rock faces. It is located more than 250 meters from the road and can be reached via a walkable hiking trail. Both the trail section and the landscape therefore help orient visitors; trail conditions may vary.

Hiking Trails Along Židova strouha

The yellow-marked hiking trail along Židova strouha can be accessed from the Týn nad Vltavou–Tábor road before Březnice. There are minor terrain obstacles along the way; near the end in particular, you must cross the stream. Trail conditions may depend on the weather, so it is advisable to check them before your visit with your planned hike in mind. From Nuzice, the most beautiful final section of Židova strouha can be reached via a blue-marked hiking trail. The two trail descriptions offer different points of reference: for the yellow marking, the road mentioned is the access point; for the blue marking, Nuzice and the final section are the reference points. First check which of these descriptions suits your hike.

Historic Village Layout

The historic village structure, with a regular village square and larger farmsteads, has been preserved in the townscape of Nuzice. This is so despite intensive periods of construction in the mid-19th century and the second half of the 20th century. The shape of the square and the farmsteads thus convey two different scales of the historic layout: the organization of the village space and the size of the farm complexes.

Archaeological Remains

Hradiště Hradce is a currently protected archaeological feature in the cadastral area of Nuzice. It lies on a prominent spur of land formed by the last meander of Židova strouha. Steep slopes, partly transitioning into rock faces, bound the site on most sides. A massive, curved transverse rampart has been preserved, crossing the access corridor almost completely. Its setting and the surviving rampart make Hradiště Hradce a distinct archaeological point of reference within the local area.

The historic Les Celiv barrow cemetery in Nuzice is also designated as an NKP barrow cemetery. A road bridge over Židova strouha in Nuzice is listed among cultural-historical and technical monuments. Together with the preserved village structure, these features offer another point of reference if you would like to take historic local landmarks into account as well as the hiking trails.
