Nove Hute: Ski Resort and Glassworks History
Accommodation in Nove Hute
Nove Hute in the Ĺ umava Protected Landscape Area
Nové Hutě is located in the Šumava Protected Landscape Area, on the border of Šumava National Park. This setting gives the village a clear geographical context. For planning your trip, you can also distinguish between two main themes: winter sports and local history. Skiing and cross-country skiing are the focus of winter sports; the glassworks and the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus are part of the area's history. You can first consider whether you would rather plan your stay around skiing and cross-country trails or historical topics. The location and individual activities answer different questions: they help you place the destination in context and choose a theme for your stay.
Skiing and cross-country skiing
The Nové Hutě ski resort includes the 1,050-meter-long Tatrapoma Nové Hutě ski lift. The ski resort is suitable for families with children, as well as beginner and intermediate skiers. The lift length and suitability answer different questions: one describes the facility, while the other identifies the groups it caters to. When assessing the skiing options, you can therefore consider both the lift and the target groups for whom the resort is suitable. For cross-country skiing, by contrast, the specific route and the direction of other trails are the main considerations.
One named cross-country ski route runs via Staré Hutě–Přilba–Zlatá Studna–Zadov–Pláně. The regularly groomed route is 50 meters from the lift's top station; check local conditions before setting out. Cross-country ski trails also lead from Nové Hutě towards Pláně, Zadov, and Zlatá studna. The distinction is useful for orientation: the route name lists a specific sequence of places, while the directions identify three destinations.
Glassworks history
The history of the glassworks has several points of reference in time and place. In 1825, a glassworks was built in StudenĂ˝ Potok, the last glassworks in the area. The local glassworks was later renamed Mayerova, operated for the longest time within the village, and closed in 1876. The scope differs: the founding date concerns the last glassworks in the area, while the operating period concerns the local works that operated for the longest time.
Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Nové Hutě is another historical point of interest. It dates from 1895 to 1901 and is the second-highest-altitude church in the Czech Republic. Its construction took place after the local glassworks closed in 1876, so the church's construction can be distinguished chronologically from the earlier end of glassworks operations. The ranking adds a different measure to the dates: it places the church among churches nationwide by altitude. Alongside the history of glassmaking, it adds church construction as another historical perspective on the village.
