Nerestce offers you a range of themes to consider when planning your trip: the Nerestský lom natural monument, Baroque art history, and the recurring Buchtobraní. If you would like to plan your stay around the landscape, culture, or a local event, you can distinguish between these themes by looking at specific features of the area. For the natural monument, its location and access route are specified; the cultural landmarks have historical associations; and the baking event is tied to a specific date.

Nerestský lom Natural Monument

Nerestský lom consists of two larger and several smaller abandoned limestone quarries. The natural monument includes parts of the cadastral areas of Horosedly and Dolní Nerestce. The abandoned limestone quarry is more than just a landform: together with the rock vegetation and dry grassland vegetation, it forms the object of protection. This brings together the former quarrying and the vegetation-related features of the same natural area.

Nerestský lom is home to diverse communities of animals and plants. These include the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo), the great crested newt (Triturus cristatus), and the fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina), as well as several plant species. You can therefore view the natural area from two perspectives: as a former quarrying site and as a habitat with different animal and plant communities. The natural monument also forms part of the „Nerestský lom“ Site of European Importance, code CZ0310084.

Nerestský lom lies about 1 km northeast of Dolní Nerestce. By car, it is possible to drive to within 250 m of the site, with no access restrictions. These are two separate points of reference for your planning: the approximate distance helps you locate the site, while the second figure describes how far the access route reaches. If you are travelling by car, the stated access distance is a useful guide.

Cultural History and Monuments

The bridge with statues was adorned with Baroque statues of saints from the workshop of J. Hammer. The figures date from the mid-18th century, but are no longer installed on the bridge. The art-historical context therefore relates to its former adornment: the statues are part of the bridge’s history, not its current appearance.

The small chateau at No. 9 in Dolní Nerestce, together with its associated parts and land, is an immovable cultural monument. Its protected status therefore covers not only the chateau itself, but also its associated parts and land. The bridge and the chateau offer different points of cultural and historical interest: the bridge is notable for its Baroque adornment, while the chateau is notable for the scope of the protected monument.

Buchtobraní and Trip Planning

Buchtobraní is a recurring baking event in Nerestce, featuring competitions in several categories. The fourth edition took place in 2026. If you would like to plan a trip around a future edition, check the dates of the respective events. This allows you to factor the time-specific event into your plans, while the natural and cultural monuments offer other points of interest to consider when choosing your stay.

The themes offer different points of interest: the location and access information for Nerestský lom help you find your way, while Buchtobraní is tied to an event date. You can also decide whether you would most like to focus on the natural area, historical art, or cultural monuments.
