At Koblížek near Knizata, the focus is on a shady woodland landscape, a pond with wetland habitats, and a precisely dated discovery. The forest and pond of the same name define the area’s natural character; a monument commemorates the 1922 gold find and Matěj Kadlec from Knížata. This lets you explore the area through two distinct themes: a walk through the forest and the habitats by the water on the one hand, and the history of the find on the other. The contrast between landscape and local history gives your stay a specific context.

Forest and Wetland Landscape

You can explore Koblížek Forest on foot along a paved path through shady woodland. It is near a forest track of the same name. Check the current condition of the path before your walk, as its condition may change.

Koblížek Pond lies in the forest of the same name, near the settlement of Knížata and close to Těmice. Freshwater reed beds and tall sedges grow along the shore. They give way to a transitional fen and a wetland area covered with woody vegetation and wet meadows. The vegetation thus shows a transition from the pond’s vegetated shore to other wetland habitats. The Drahoňovský Stream flows below the dam. This makes it possible to distinguish several specific landscape features at Koblížek: the shore, fen, woody wetland, and stream.

Koblížek is an existing, functioning local biocentre embedded in a supraregional biocorridor. Within the biocentre, a small pond and a meadow with globe thistles lie side by side. This classification links two scales: a specific local area with a pond and meadow, and the broader ecological context of the corridor. A botanical site is also recorded at Koblížek, southeast of Knizata. Alongside the shoreline and wetland areas, this site represents another natural-history aspect of the area.

The Koblížek Gold Find

The story of the gold find is precisely dated. On 23 May 1922, while digging up tree stumps in Koblížek Forest, Matěj Kadlec found 20 gold coins. After he reported the find, gendarmes discovered another 456 gold coins at the site. The figures relate to two successive stages: first Kadlec’s discovery, then the additional coins found during the gendarmes’ subsequent search. A monument at Koblížek commemorates the find and Kadlec from Knížata. After the discovery, treasure hunters from the surrounding area searched the site; from time to time, they found small coins there.

Different questions come to the fore when considering the destination: the forest path offers a way to explore Koblížek on foot, while the pond, reeds, sedges, and wetlands convey the waterside landscape. The gold coins, the date of the find, and the monument, by contrast, represent local history. If you weigh nature against history, you get two clearly distinct perspectives on Koblížek without reducing the find or the landscape to a single feature.
