Accommodation in Zirnau
Zirnau combines a landscape on the edge of the Hlubocká (Zbudovská) Basin with historic buildings in Dříteň. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether nature, Baroque architecture, or a combination of the two should be the deciding factor.
Landscape and Protected Area
Dříteň lies on the edge of the Hlubocká (Zbudovská) Basin, in a landscape of ponds and historic buildings. From the countryside around Dříteň, views extend to Blanský les and the Bohemian Forest. How far you can see depends on the weather, so conditions on the day are a key factor for long-distance views.
The Radomilická mokřina is part of the natural scenery. Under Government Decree No. 132/2005 Coll., it is a European Site of Community Importance with site code CZ0313116. It was also designated a nature reserve by Resolution of the Council of the South Bohemian Region No. 30/2011. Within the municipality of Dříteň, areas in the cadastral district of Záblatí are part of this European protected area. If you are planning a visit, check the applicable access conditions in advance.
Chateau, Church and Monument
A Baroque chateau stands in the central part of Dříteň, adjoining an agricultural complex and a public square. The town center thus brings together the chateau, an agricultural complex, and public space. For your trip planning, the chateau is a specific point of reference if you are interested in historic architecture and the layout of a town.
The Church of St. Dismas was built in 1691 by Giacomo Antonio de Maggi, an architect working for the Schwarzenbergs. It is an octagonal Baroque central-plan building with a projecting western tower and a rectangular presbytery. The term central-plan building describes a form of architecture organized around a center; here, this is expressed in its octagonal shape. The church is accessible during services. Plan a visit accordingly around service times.
The statue of St. John of Nepomuk is another testament to the town’s history. This cultural monument dates from 1757 and originally stood at the chateau. The information about its original location is part of its history; it does not indicate its present location. Dříteň’s historic points of interest thus include a chateau, a religious building, and a standalone monument.
Blacksmith’s Forge and Event Venue
The blacksmith’s forge in Dříteň can also be appreciated through its architectural form. The plastered masonry building has a rectangular floor plan. A classical semi-elliptical arch opens onto the work area in the front room; above it is a gabled roof covered with tiles. These details give the building a different architectural character from the chateau and church.
In 2025, the former forge housed the “Hospůdka na kovárně” pub. As its use may change, check before visiting whether the pub is still operating.
A public performance of “Drákula” was held at the Dříteň Chateau Cultural, Social and Educational Center. If you would like to include an event in your stay, check the current schedule. The church and the theatrical performance represent different timeframes: a church visit depends on service times, while a performance takes place on its scheduled date.
This will help you decide what you want to focus on during your trip before comparing hotels in Zirnau.
