Cejetice: Church Art, the Otava and Cycling Routes

Cejetice offers several points of interest for a trip: medieval church art, cycling routes, the sports and recreation area near the Otava, a pond on the village square and a local brewery. Church Art and Local Culture

The Church of St. Havel in Cejetice has stood near the Otava since the mid-13th century. Fragments of wall paintings were discovered in the church and dated to the third quarter of the 14th century. Part of a Passion cycle from the time of Charles IV was also uncovered on the north side of the nave. A Passion cycle comprises depictions of the Passion of Christ and gives the paintings a clear art-historical context. The dates describe different aspects: the history of the church and the later dating of the wall-painting fragments.

Cejetice Cultural Centre, at house number 155, provides space for a wide range of cultural events organised by the municipality and local associations. In Mladějovice, Skupův koutek is freely accessible in the corridor of the former school. Alongside the Cultural Centre’s role as an events venue, this gives you a specific place in a former school building to visit for cultural interest.

Cycling and Time by the Otava

Cycling route CT1045 passes through Cejetice on its way to Sudoměř. The cycling tour “Na kole krajinou rybníků” (Cycling through the Landscape of Ponds) also passes through Cejetice and Sudoměř, among other places. The tour is listed as 38 kilometres long and easy; it is suitable for all types of bicycles and for families with small children. This tour therefore has specific distance and difficulty information, while CT1045 is identified by its route through Cejetice to Sudoměř.

The Cejetice Sports and Recreation Area is near the Otava. You can hire bicycles there for a fee, and the area also welcomes passing canoeists. Bicycle hire and canoeing are two different activities to enjoy during your stay. If you plan to hire a bicycle, remember to factor in the fee.

Village Square and Brewery

Obecní rybník is a pond on Cejetice village square and has a small island. Fish harvesting also takes place there. So, as well as the pond and its island, a local activity is part of what makes this square distinctive.
