Jindřichův Hradec 1: Hiking, Nature and Architectural History
Accommodation in Jindřichův Hradec 1
If you are looking for a hotel in Jindřichův Hradec 1, you can plan your stay around the excursions you have in mind. Hiking, nature and architectural history can be experienced in different ways in Blažejov, the Jindřišské údolí and near Malý Ratmírov. When planning, it helps to consider whether you would most like to follow a trail with information panels, explore a valley shaped by nature, or visit historic buildings and archaeological sites.
Hiking Trails and Navigation in the Jindřišské údolí
The Jindrova naučná stezka runs through Jindřiš and Blažejov to Malý Ratmírov. Each information panel has a children’s section intended for preschoolers and younger schoolchildren. The route therefore combines its trail with information tailored to these age groups.
The route from Jindřichův Hradec to Malý Ratmírov passes through the wilder section of the Jindřišské údolí and then reaches the dam of the Ratmírovský rybník. The valley is about 7 kilometres long. The section from Jindřiš to Pod Blažejovem is about 3.5 kilometres; the section from Pod Blažejovem to Malý Ratmírov is also about 3.5 kilometres. These figures help put the valley sections in perspective without implying a walking time.
One restriction is important when choosing how to get around: the marked trail through the Jindřišské údolí is suitable for pedestrians only. The lower section of the valley is especially impassable by bicycle. Check local trail conditions before setting out.
Nature and Water near Malý Ratmírov
The Jindřišské údolí is characterised by talus-slope forests, fir stands and relict pine forests. Protected plant and animal species are also found there. This natural setting gives the hike a different focus from the buildings in Blažejov: here, the forest landscape and its habitats take centre stage.
Near Malý Ratmírov, the Ratmírovský rybník lies right beside the Hamerský potok. Malý Ratmírov is part of the municipality of Blažejov. The pond is currently used as an important recreational pond. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between the trail sections through the valley and an excursion focused on the water.
Church and Architectural History in Blažejov
The Church of St Elizabeth is a single-nave masonry building with a polygonal presbytery, buttresses and a western tower. It was originally built in the early Gothic style in the second half of the 13th century. The portal on the ground floor of the tower dates from around 1300. In 1863–1864, the church was extended and remodelled in the Neo-Romanesque style.
The church thus brings together different building phases: its early Gothic origins, the tower portal dating from around 1300 and the later 19th-century remodelling. This sequence offers a concrete point of reference for viewing the architecture as more than a single structure from one period.
Vítkův hrádek and Its Remains
Below Blažejov, the remains of Vítkův hrádek can be visited on a rocky promontory above the Hamerský potok. The medieval watch castle dates from the first half of the 13th century. Its triangular core was protected by a rampart and ditch; surviving remains include a wall and a palace with so-called herringbone masonry. This archaeological site offers a different perspective on medieval building styles from the church’s architectural history.
The remains can be reached from Blažejov via a marked hiking trail. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The excursion options therefore offer a range of different highlights: information panels along the Jindrova naučná stezka, the valley landscape and walking trails, and individual historic buildings and archaeological sites.
