Castle history and tours give your trip planning for Mokrosuky two distinct focuses: at the castle, traces range from a former water castle to the Renaissance, while paths start in the town center and longer day trips include a castle visit. This lets you decide whether to focus mainly on architecture, seasonal guided tours, or a walking or cycling tour.

Accommodation and planning

At Mokrosuky Castle, four rooms, a kitchen, and other facilities are rented exclusively to one group at a time. One price covers all four rooms, the kitchen, and the other facilities. If you are considering this group rental, ask the provider about your preferred dates and the specific offer.

From water castle to Renaissance château

The former water castle was built around the 15th century. A Gothic water castle stood here by this century at the latest. Masonry with two stone corbels has survived in the southeast wing; remains of the former moat can be seen on the east side. These architectural features show how the former complex can still be made out in today’s castle.

In 1579, Volf Gothard z Perglas transformed the water castle into a two-wing Renaissance château. Its design includes an arcaded façade and sgraffito decoration. A semicircular niche survives from the castle chapel added later. The Zámek Mokrosuky complex is a cultural monument. In front of the castle stand a recently erected monument to Prof. MUDr. Vojta and a monument to the victims of the First World War.

Guided tours and castle features

The interactive armory and the exhibition on historical fencing allow visitors to touch some of the exhibits. The castle also features a museum of historical fencing, a smithy, and a medieval black kitchen. Guided tours cover the castle’s history, life there today, and its reconstruction. They are offered seasonally, so check current dates and tour availability before your visit.

At cultural events, visitors can sample bread baked right in the castle’s bread oven. Bread tasting is only available at such events. It is therefore part of a special event, not a regularly available catering service.

Routes and day trips

Cestou menhirů starts in the center of Mokrosuky and heads toward Lešišov. From the town center, the path climbs to a junction with a menhir and a view into the valley. The final section follows a road comfortably downhill back to Mokrosuky. If you plan to take this route, check local conditions before setting out.

Two differently designed routes in the area are also options for a longer day trip: Cycling route 2091 is described as a full-day tour of about 25 kilometers through Pošumaví along the Ostružná. It includes a stop of about 1 to 1.5 hours to visit Mokrosuky Castle. A full-day hike of approximately 12 kilometers follows the yellow trail through the former mining town of Hory Matky Boží to Velhartice. Its starting point in Mokrosuky includes a visit to the castle at Mokrosuky railway station; the start and finish are connected by railway line 185. Before planning, check the tour provider’s current information and, for the train, the timetable.

Both excursions are planned as full-day trips, but differ in mode of travel and stated distance: around 25 kilometers on the cycling route compared with about 12 kilometers on foot. An approximate visiting time is given only for the cycling route’s castle stop. This comparison helps you fit the excursion into your stay without inferring a walking or cycling time.

Getting around town

Mokrosuky has a railway stop on the Horažďovice–Klatovy line and is connected to surrounding municipalities by bus. There is also a general store in town; check locally what is available at the time you need it.

Notable trees also serve as landmarks: a small-leaved lime grows on the western edge of town, along the road to Hory Matky Boží. At the eastern end of the town, an English oak stands by the football pitch and at the crossroads for Lešišov and Sušice.
