Okrouhlé Hradiště combines a specific hiking trail with archaeological heritage, church and local history, and several cycling routes. The village lies on the gently sloping southern hillside of the southern spur of Hradišťský vrch. Orchards surround the settlement, and picturesque rows of fruit trees line local paths and roads. If the village scenery and landscape are important to you when choosing a destination, the hillside setting, gardens and tree-lined avenues offer specific points to consider.

Hiking at Hradišťský vrch

The Hradišťský vrch nature trail is a 5.5-kilometre circular route with six information panels and green trail markers. The typical walking time is about 2.5 hours. The trail offers several lovely views of the surrounding region. The information panels provide insights into the typical flora and fauna of this distinctive landscape and the history of prehistoric settlement in the Late Bronze Age. This makes it possible to assess the circular walk in terms of both distance and walking time, as well as its natural-history and historical themes. Check the local signage before setting off.

Hillfort site and local history

Hradiště Hradišťský kopec in Okrouhlé Hradiště is designated a national cultural monument. The hillfort site is the second largest in West Bohemia and significant evidence of socioeconomic changes at the end of the Bronze Age. The historic village centre is documented from 1369. The Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist is mentioned as early as 1380 and is recorded as a parish church from 1696. The present-day Church of Saint John the Baptist is pseudo-Romanesque and dates from 1881. Taken together, these historical landmarks span the Late Bronze Age, the history of the village and its church, and the architectural style of the present-day church. The term refers to social and economic changes.

Cycling routes through the village

Several named circular cycling routes also pass through Okrouhlé Hradiště. The “Nad úterským potokem” cycling loop follows Route 306 through the village. “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku” also passes through Okrouhlé Hradiště via Route 306. The Šipín loop also goes through the village and is 48 kilometres long. These routes offer different points of reference when choosing a ride: two loops are described as following Route 306, while the Šipín loop is specified by its total distance. A tourist stamp featuring Gutštejn Castle is available at the Hadovka restaurant in Okrouhlé Hradiště.

The attractions can be considered separately: the nature trail combines natural history with prehistory, the hillfort site has an archaeological focus, and the village centre and churches add later periods to the historical picture. Those who prefer cycling can choose from the named loops, using either the route via Route 306 or the 48-kilometre length of the Šipín loop as a guide.
