Butov: Water, Cycling Routes and the Bronze Age
Accommodation in Butov
When planning a stay in Butov, you can focus on different things: water activities at the Rekreační středisko BUTOV, cycling routes connected with the area, and the history of the Butovská mohyla. The shore of the Hracholuská přehrada, a seasonal boat service and archaeological dates each offer a different perspective for your trip. Water sports and the excursion boat are seasonal; check local conditions and current departure times before travelling.
Water activities on the shore
The Rekreační středisko BUTOV is set in attractive woodland on the shore of the Hracholuská přehrada. Swimming is possible there, as are sailing and windsurfing. These three activities offer different ways to spend time on the water: swimming focuses on the water itself, while sailing and windsurfing involve travelling across it. Anglers can also enjoy their hobby on the shore of the site. Swimming, sailing and windsurfing are seasonal leisure activities; check local conditions before making plans. Fishing rules and any required permits may change, so check them before fishing.
The Plzeň excursion boat
The Plzeň excursion boat offers a different perspective on the Hracholuská přehrada during the season. It runs on the Hracholusky–Butov route and stops at the main campsites. The boat has a capacity of 150 people and travels a 20 km route. This makes the service a distinct excursion option alongside swimming and water sports. Capacity and route length may change; check these details and current departure times before travelling.
Two cycling routes connected with Butov
Cycling Route 2222 runs from Výrov via Nový Dvůr, Nynkov, Řebří, Ošelín, Svojšín, Pytlov, Záchlumí, Kšice and Únehle to Butov. Cycling Route 2214 passes by Butov. The two routes therefore have different connections with the area: Butov is the last place in the sequence listed for Route 2222, while Route 2214 passes by it. If you plan to include either route in your itinerary, check its course and current trail conditions before setting out.
The Butovská mohyla
The Butovská mohyla is a burial mound near Butov dating from the Middle Bronze Age, approximately the 16th to 14th century BC. In 1936, Otto Eichhorn excavated the mound; he was a professor and museum director who worked in Stříbro. In 2013, staff from the Západočeské muzeum v Plzni excavated and reconstructed a burial mound near Butov. The dating and these two later works belong to different periods: the Bronze Age came long before the excavations of 1936 and 2013. This distinction in chronology helps explain the archaeological history of the burial mound.
