Accommodation in Vlčkov
Vlčkov stretches along the northern bank of the Vlčkovský potok. There are several different points to consider when planning a stay: cycle route CT 4145, the history of the chapel and the Masaryk monument, and two recurring festivals. The theme that interests you may also help determine the right time to travel.
Village character and cycle route
Original folk architecture buildings have been preserved in Vlčkov. Preserved farmsteads and historic houses also contribute to the character of the landscape. Alongside individual landmarks, rural architecture is one of the village’s defining features.
For cyclists, cycle route CT 4145 is a specific point of interest: it runs from Sloupnice to Kozlovský kopec and passes through Vlčkov. Check the route conditions before setting out. The cycle route and historic buildings offer different points of focus when planning a stay.
Chapel and Masaryk monument
The chapel in Vlčkov was fully completed on 21 June 1904 and consecrated on 15 August of the same year. The two dates mark different milestones: completion in June and consecration in August. A statue of Mary, Help of Christians, with the infant Jesus was installed in the chapel.
Another historic landmark stands in the village square: the T. G. Masaryk monument. It was unveiled on 6 August 1922 and consists of a pedestal and a bust of Masaryk. The chapel and the monument therefore represent different aspects of the village’s history: religious tradition on the one hand and remembrance of Masaryk on the other.
Music festival in May
The traditional music festival “Putování za studánkami” has been held in Vlčkov on the last Saturday of every May since 1983. Check the exact calendar date before travelling so you can plan around the event. The tradition is based on the local custom of cleaning springs.
The cantata “Otvírání studánek” is also associated with the festival. Bohuslav Martinů composed it in 1955 to words by the poet Miloslav Bureš. Thus, “Putování za studánkami” brings together a local custom and a musical work. The May festival provides a clear guide for choosing a date, while its connection to the cantata also gives the occasion its own cultural background.
Tradition drive on 28 October
Another recurring event is “Putování za tradicemi první republiky”. Since 2009, the event has invited enthusiasts of pre-1938 two- and four-wheeled vehicles to Vlčkov each year on 28 October. The celebratory drive goes from Litomyšl via Vlkov, Němčice, Člupek and Pudilka to Vlčkov.
In Vlčkov, participants take part in a commemorative ceremony and sing Masaryk’s favourite song, “Ach, synku, synku”. Individual event arrangements may change, so check the date and programme before travelling. Unlike the May music festival, the October event is centred on the drive featuring vehicles from before 1938 and the commemorative ceremony. The two festivals therefore differ in both date and programme.
Plan your stay to suit you
If you are looking for a hotel in Vlčkov, the reason for your trip can help you choose a date: the music festival on the last Saturday in May, the tradition drive on 28 October, or a stay focused on village history and architecture. If you are planning a day of cycling, also check the conditions of cycle route CT 4145. This will help you coordinate the event date, your interests and your travel plans.
