Stolany offers several specific interests to help you plan your trip: sacred architecture and local history, two named lime trees, walking routes and seasonal traditions. These themes relate to different times of year. The church and fortress represent local history; the trees can be distinguished by their names and planting dates, while the events are tied to spring and specific dates.

Church and Historic Buildings

The Church of Saint Nicholas in Stolany is a state-listed cultural monument. Its tower type is rare and unusual, and is associated with churches in Staré Žďánice, Opatovice nad Labem and Všestary. This draws attention not only to the monument’s status but also to specific architectural features: its distinctive tower and its connection to churches in three other places.

A parish in Stolany is documented as far back as 1352. Václav Ples had Stolany Fortress converted into a Renaissance residence; remains of the Renaissance fortress have been preserved in an agricultural building. For a culturally focused stay, the church and fortress offer different points of interest: the church for its unusual tower type, and the fortress for its Renaissance conversion and surviving remains.

Lime Trees as Local Landmarks

Two named lime trees can be distinguished by their names, planting dates and origins. Lípa Stolanka is a silver lime; it was planted at U křížku on 21 March 2019. The Stolanská lípa republiky was planted at a crossroads behind the village on 18 November 2018 and is descended from the rare Klokočovská lípa. The planting dates are only a year apart, but the names refer to different trees: the lineage belongs to the Stolanská lípa republiky, while the silver lime is the Lípa Stolanka.

Walking Routes and Landscape

Lom u Stolan Geopark is located near Stolany. A route description from January 2023 gives directions on foot from Stolany, heading south along a red-marked tourist route to the Pravěká stezka u Stolan nature trail. Thus, the stated proximity is useful when planning a visit to the geopark, while the starting point, direction and route marking are useful details for reaching the nature trail. Residents use a crossroads behind Stolany for walking and cycling. These three details provide different points of reference for your plans: a geopark nearby, a described route to the nature trail, and a place used by residents for walks and bike rides.

Spring Traditions and When to Visit

The municipality’s 2024 annual review describes several recurring spring events. These include the Morana procession in spring. Before Easter, there is a gathering to decorate Easter eggs and sample Easter specialities; at the end of April, a witch-burning event is held in the park by the pond in Stolany, followed by children’s fishing competitions at the end of May. The events therefore span the weeks before Easter, the end of April and later in spring.

When choosing a destination, you can weigh up the themes separately: the history of the church and fortress, the different stories of the two lime trees, a described route to the nature trail, or a stay during the spring traditions. This lets you consider your preferred focus and travel dates together without combining the local sights and events into a single itinerary.
