Střemošice: Nature, Heritage and Marked Routes
Accommodation in Střemošice
Střemošice combines natural attractions, medieval traces and marked routes. This gives you several points of interest to consider when planning your trip: Střemošická stráň, the archaeological site of Žižkův stůl, or the local hiking and cycling routes. Depending on whether you prefer nature, history or outdoor activities, you can choose a different focus.
Nature at Střemošická stráň
Střemošická stráň is one of the most important botanical and entomological sites in Bohemia. It is the only site of the lady’s slipper orchid in the Chrudim District. As a Natura 2000 site, it protects dry semi-natural grasslands, scrub habitats and extensively mown lowland and upland meadows on calcareous soil. The focus is therefore on both the botanical significance of the lady’s slipper orchid and the diversity of protected habitat types. Nature enthusiasts can appreciate both the plant’s regional uniqueness and the variety of habitats. The lady’s slipper orchid draws attention to a single plant species, while the habitat types illustrate the broader ecological significance of the area.
Medieval Traces and the Village Square
Žižkův stůl is a well-preserved medieval fortification north of Bílý Kůň. It consists of a circular mound and a wet moat. An access path to the site branches off about 200 metres beyond the last houses in Bílý Kůň. On the village square in Bílý Kůň, there is a St. Wenceslas chapel with a bell tower, a wayside shrine and another chapel. The contrast between the fortification north of the village and the religious buildings on the village square highlights the range of historical themes.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
The blue-marked hiking route starts at the Bílý Kůň trailhead and passes through Střemošice, Řepníky, Pustina, Zádolí, Brteč and Vanice before reaching Vysoké Mýto. The red-marked route runs through Bílý Kůň and the Údolí Krounky a Novohradky Nature Park. The blue route is defined by its sequence of named places all the way to the destination, while the red route is distinguished by the nature park along its course. Local cycling routes also pass through Střemošice, following lightly trafficked class III roads and paved paths. These different points of reference help you choose between hiking and cycling for your trip. Check current route conditions before setting out on a cycling trip.
Poklona offers an exceptional view of Novohradsko, Prosečsko, Skutečsko, Lužsko and the Železné hory Mountains. This viewpoint provides a scenic highlight alongside the village and route options.
