Sopřeč: Nature at Sopřečský Pond
Accommodation in Sopřeč
If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Sopřeč, the landscape offers a clear starting point: the village lies in eastern Polabí and is surrounded by forests and appealing natural scenery. Sopřečský rybník is a defining feature. Trails, birdlife and a few historical landmarks round out this profile. Sopřeč is best understood as a destination through its landscape and the specific attractions around the village.
Pond landscape and birdlife
Sopřečský rybník lies about 1 km southeast of Sopřeč in the Pardubice District and covers around 86 ha. It was created in the 16th century as part of the Pernštejn pond system. This makes it both a geographical and a historical reference point for the village: it shapes the natural landscape today and is part of the history of the pond system.
Today, the pond is considered primarily an ornithological area with waterbirds. It is an important stopover for migrating geese and ducks; the species present vary with the seasons. For nature enthusiasts, it brings together a lasting landscape feature and birdlife whose character changes over the course of the year. If you make nature the focus of your trip, this seasonal variation is part of the character of the place.
On foot and by bike
The yellow-marked Výrovský Circuit has a 500 m spur leading to Sopřečský rybník. The Výrovský Circuit is also a 6.5 km walking trail through forests between Břehy near Přelouč, Vlčí Habřina and Sopřeč. The spur and the walking trail are different in length and purpose: one leads to the pond, while the other runs through the forests.
Cycle Route 4272 is 11 km long and runs from Výrov through Sopřeč to Chýšť. From Výrov, it follows a forest track over the dam of Sopřečský rybník, where rare waterbirds can be found. The different distances can help you choose between a short detour, a walk and a longer bike ride: 500 m is the spur to the pond, 6.5 km is the walking trail, and 11 km is the cycle route. Check the route markers and trail conditions before setting out; signage and trail conditions may change.
Local history and other natural features
A statue of Saint Wenceslas stands at the southern edge of the village. It was consecrated in 1876 and created by sculptor Antonín Okrouhlický. Another historical record is the memorial book of the mayor of Sopřeč: its entries date from 1773 to the beginning of the 20th century. The two references highlight different things—a single monument and written records spanning more than a century of local history.
Sušina also adds to the area’s natural features: this forest lies west of Sopřeč and south of Vápno. Together with the pond to the southeast, it gives the area two distinct, geographically named features: forest and water.
