Sezemice Nad Loučnou offers a variety of themes to consider when planning a stay: historic buildings, the Loučná river landscape, and Mlynářka sports and recreation park. Whether you are interested in culture, nature or outdoor activities, the distinctive features of the buildings and landscape can help you choose your own focus.

Church and historic buildings

The Church of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest and most significant monuments in the region. Its oldest brickwork dates from the first half of the 13th century. The octagonal bell tower in Sezemice is unique in Bohemia in its shape and size.

The oldest surviving residential building is House No. 92 on Husovo náměstí. Its gable is designed in the 18th-century folk Baroque style. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary in the cemetery was built in 1902 at the highest point in Sezemice. These buildings reflect different periods: from the 13th-century brickwork to the 18th-century gable and the construction of the chapel in the early 20th century.

Outside the town center is the nearby Velký semínský Aqueduct. It was built in 1892 as part of the Pardubice pond system. This hydraulic engineering structure is another historic feature you can take into account when planning your trip.

The Loučná, nature and information boards

Mlynářova louka, near the former mill, lies between the watercourses of the Loučná and the mill race. It is considered a natural oasis of calm. The Vesecký kopec nature monument lies within the city of Sezemice, near the village of Veská, at 238 m above sea level. It is considered the largest sand dune in the Czech Republic and is home to several protected beetle species.

Tourist information boards were installed in 2014 in the area around the aqueduct, at the confluence of the Zadní Lodrantka and the Loučná, along the cycle path beside the Loučná, and on the banks of the Loučná. They cover the surrounding nature, the history of the aqueduct and the city's sights. Nature, hydraulic engineering and local history are distinct themes reflected in the boards’ focus.

Paths and Mlynářka Park

From Sezemice, you can enjoy easy walks and cycling trips on newly built paths and cycle routes. Check current path conditions before setting out if you plan to include them in your itinerary.

Mlynářka sports and recreation park was created in the center of Sezemice between the Loučná and its mill race, Mlýnský potok. The park has paved paths, benches and waste bins; public lighting is available in some areas. It also has an outdoor fitness and parkour area with a tartan surface, which opened on September 1, 2019.

When there is frost, a natural ice rink is set up in part of the park near the mill race, where skaters of all ages can use it. For planning purposes, distinguish it from the park’s other features: the rink depends on freezing conditions and should not be expected as a seasonal offering in milder weather.
