Žampach offers a variety of highlights for a stay: the arboretum’s collection of trees and shrubs, the history of the castle and several cultural monuments. If you are looking for a hotel in Žampach, considering which of these themes interests you most can help you choose the destination.

Arboretum and visitor information

The Žampach Arboretum collection comprises around 700 species and cultivars of trees and shrubs, including species that are rare in the Czech Republic. The arboretum is open to the public free of charge year-round, subject to its visitor rules. The collection of trees and shrubs gives a visit its own focus alongside the historic aspects of the town.

There are information boards along the paths. During the day, the information centre offers freely accessible areas on a terrace and in a cellar room, with small self-service refreshments and Wi-Fi. These visitor services may depend on operating conditions. You can obtain the key to the public toilet by the conservatory on the ground floor of the château building from the information centre.

Žampach Castle and its history

Žampach Castle was built during the colonisation period at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Historically, it served to provide defence, administer the estate and protect important regional land and trade routes. Its history therefore encompasses military, estate-administration and transport-related functions.

The other historical landmarks also date from different periods. The estate pillory from 1693 is the oldest surviving stonework in Žampach. Today, it stands on the rise between the foot of the castle hill and the château park. The wooden bell tower from the early 19th century stands in the centre of the town. Together with the castle’s construction at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, these landmarks span several different periods.

Chapel and lapidarium

The Baroque Chapel of St Bartholomew is a registered cultural monument, registration number 4167, and forms part of the early Baroque château in Žampach. It is equipped for public concerts and cultural events for residents of the care home there. The programme may vary; if you are interested in an event, check the latest dates.

The publicly accessible lapidarium displays photographic documentation and a plan of Žampach Castle, with descriptions of its individual parts. Archaeological finds and information about where they were discovered are also on display. This allows you to explore both visual and descriptive information about the castle and the artefacts themselves.

Paths and visitor planning

The wooden Zámecká lávka, built in 1886, now serves as the starting point for a path from the upper château park to the castle hill and the route “around the castle.” It combines a historic structure with a modern access function. Maintenance work may temporarily affect access. Before travelling, therefore, check the visitor rules in force and the latest information about paths and visitor services.
