Pavlovice u Přerova combines a distinctive location in the Kelčská pahorkatina with a regional position between Haná and Valašsko. The castle, the Church of St. Giles, archaeological remains and marked cycle routes each add a different dimension. When planning your trip, you can consider the landscape, architectural history and cycling as separate interests, rather than reducing the place to a single theme.

Landscape between Haná and Valašsko

The village lies on a distinctive spur of the Kelčská pahorkatina and also on the border between Haná and Valašsko, in the Záhoří area. These descriptions refer to different aspects: the Kelčská pahorkatina situates Pavlovice in the landscape, while Haná, Valašsko and Záhoří describe its regional setting. This allows you to consider the village both in terms of its terrain and its position between two regions. The distinction connects the landscape theme with a separate regional perspective.

The castle and the Church of St. Giles

The castle complex was built by Baron Alfred Skene. It includes a Neo-Gothic garden pavilion and an entrance gate known as “Předzámčí.” The castle has been protected as a cultural monument since February 2, 1994; its register number is ÚSKP 10334/8-3535. The complex therefore offers several specific points of interest for exploring cultural history: the patron who commissioned it, the pavilion’s architecture and the name of the gate. Its protected status adds a clear historical dimension to these features.

The Church of St. Giles also reveals a contrast between periods: the present church was built in 1885–1886, while the tower of the previous building, dating from 1555, was retained. Two Baroque sandstone statues stand beside the staircase, one of St. John of Nepomuk and the other of Blessed John Sarkander. A protected ensemble of three Baroque statues in Pavlovice documents the development of sculpture in the Olomouc region during the second quarter of the 18th century. Taken together, these details illustrate different aspects of the village’s character: surviving architectural elements, religious sculptures and an art-historical context.

Archaeological traces from different periods

Stone tools from the Upper Paleolithic, attributed to the Aurignacian culture, were found at the Přísahanec site. The medieval Hausberk fortification was located in the Zámčisko field on the northern edge of the Záhoří forest and was surrounded by a rampart and a ditch. From a 14th-century fortress in Pavlovice, a levelled residential platform and, to the east, a still-visible remnant of a ditch about one metre deep have survived. The archaeological evidence thus includes both Stone Age finds and traces of medieval fortifications in the landscape. The history of the village is shaped not only by surviving architecture, but also by artefacts and traces in the terrain.
