Moravičany combines several religious ensembles and chapels with a named cycling tour that passes through the town; the Moravičanské jezero nature reserve is also nearby. These offer different starting points for planning your trip: you can weigh up rail connections, the cycling route, local history and the natural surroundings according to your interests.

Getting There and Finding Your Way

Moravičany railway station is on line 270 and offers services for domestic passenger traffic, including seat reservations. As services may change, check the latest operating information before travelling. This lets you factor the rail connection into your plans without relying on an unchanged service.

Cycling and Nature Nearby

The 74-kilometre “Projížďka Litovelským Pomoravím” cycling tour passes through Moravičany. From Mohelnice, it follows a cycle path into the town and through Moravičany. At the edge of town, the described continuation goes either through the forest or along a cycle path to Doubravice. The total distance and the local onward routes offer different points of reference for planning your stages: the 74 kilometres refer to the entire tour, while the two options describe the route from the edge of town. If you plan to follow the route, check its course and conditions before setting out, as route conditions can change.

The Moravičanské jezero nature reserve is nearby and covers 92.15 hectares. It is an important ornithological nature reserve, offering a different focus from the town’s religious buildings. If you are planning specific activities, check the applicable conservation regulations and the current boundaries of the reserve beforehand.

Church Ensembles and Architectural History

The listed ensemble of the Church of Saint George stands on a rise within the municipality. The ensemble includes a bell tower, an enclosing wall with a gate and a sandstone pulpit. A separate parish area lies below the church, at the southeastern foot of the rise. The description of the ensemble thus covers both the church’s location and the distinct parish area.

The Marian Column with the Christ Child dates from 1703. It is a valuable early Baroque sculpture and has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. The Chapel of Saint Florian was built around 1713 and reconstructed in 1945. Its interior paintings include frescoes by Petr Herzig: they depict important buildings in Moravičany and Saint Florian extinguishing a burning roof. The column and the chapel represent different historical dates; for the chapel, its construction date should be distinguished from its later reconstruction.

The Chapel of the Holy Trinity dates from 1833. This small brick building is classified as folk architecture. It stands at the edge of town on the road to the Doubravice district, opposite a production facility. Another ensemble, featuring the Virgin Mary, Saint Florian and Saint John of Nepomuk, stands on the road to Doubravice, just beyond the bridge over the Třebůvka on the left. This ensemble is dated to 1676; other dates place it as late as the mid-18th century. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. The 1833 chapel and the sculptural ensemble with its differing dates can therefore be viewed as separate cultural and historical landmarks.
