Klopotovice lies on the edge of the Upper Moravian Valley and is shaped by agriculture. The village’s history includes a protected chapel, religious sculptures and memorial sites from several centuries. The landscape is also part of the village’s character: fertile chernozem soils, little woodland and the Blata River shape the cadastral area.

Cultural Monuments and Local History

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is listed as a cultural monument. It was built and consecrated in 1810. Its architectural features include a recessed pentagonal presbytery and a prismatic bell tower. The grounds include a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1740, standing on a prismatic pedestal. The monument to Saint John of Nepomuk was restored in 1740 and moved to its present location.

Crosses also tell the story of the village. Kloboukův kříž dates from 1912 and stands beside a field path from Klopotovice to the Tovačov–Prostějov road. Another cross, dating from 1882, stands beside a field path leading to Tovačov. The 1855 cross marked a place where the deceased could be given a dignified farewell. These different functions give each cross its own historical significance.

Several Marian sculptures commemorate specific people and events. The statue of the Madonna of Svatý Kopeček was erected in May 1946 on the site of a destroyed cross; it commemorates the devastation of Klopotovice at the end of the Second World War in May 1945. The Madonna of Hostýn was commissioned by František and Františka Klobouk at the end of the 19th century. The statue was created by A. Beck of Kroměříž. A Pietà depicts Our Lady of Sorrows with Jesus Christ, taken down from the cross, on her lap. The Krátký couple from Klopotovice had it made in 1898 in honor and praise of the Virgin Mary. The statue of the Virgin Mary, the main cross in the cemetery and the war victims’ memorial in the village center are monuments of local significance.

The 1922 Freedom Monument commemorates the residents of Klopotovice who fell in the First World War and the local legionnaires. Another historical theme connects the village with the Battle of Tovačov: the sandstone monument is dedicated to Prussian Major Eduard von Behr and is associated with the Prussian-Austrian battle of July 15, 1866. Local cultural history also has a well-known name: composer and organist Václav Plachý was born in Klopotovice on September 4, 1785.

Landscape and Getting Around

The cadastral area of Klopotovice is flat, with an elevation difference of up to 10 meters. The soils are highly fertile chernozem, while woodland is scarce. The Blata crosses the area from northwest to southeast. Its total length there is 3 kilometers, and its water surface covers 3 hectares. Thus, in Klopotovice, agricultural lowland and a clearly defined river course sit side by side.

Road connections from Klopotovice lead toward Prostějov, Přerov and Olomouc. The motorway toward Brno–Olomouc is 10 kilometers from Klopotovice in the direction of Prostějov. Check the current route and road conditions before you travel. The cultural monuments and landscape offer different points of interest: the chapel, crosses and memorial sites reveal local history, while the Blata, chernozem soils and flat cadastral area illustrate the area’s agricultural character.
