When choosing a hotel destination, you can understand Hradčany above all through its landscape and local history. The village combines a clearly defined landscape with historical traces in the village square and beyond the built-up center.

Landscape and Historical Mentions

Hradčany lies in a valley through which the Šišemka stream flows. Geographically and culturally, it is part of Lipenské Záhoří, a region between the Hostýnské vrchy and the Bečva. Old documents, particularly ecclesiastical records, mention Hradčany as early as 1160. The landscape and written records thus provide two distinct points of reference: a clearly defined regional setting and an early historical mention of the village.

Chapel and Bell Tower in the Village Square

The newly built Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua is a prominent feature of the spacious village square. Its construction history spans several periods. The wooden bell tower, which had stood there since time immemorial, was converted into a masonry bell tower in the mid-19th century. In 2008, the nave of the present-day chapel was added to the bell tower. “Nave” refers to the chapel’s central space; here, the term denotes the part added later. This makes it possible to distinguish the tower’s construction history from the later addition of the chapel.

Another historical detail is the statue of the Virgin Mary of Svatý Hostýn. It dates from 1912 and was commissioned at the expense of Antonie Hrbáčková. The year and the named patron provide specific reference points in its history.

Fortress Remains and Local Legend

The remains of Hradčany Fortress lie in the woods between Hradčany and Pavlovice, outside the built-up center. They survive as raised ground on a low promontory. This historical feature is described differently from the village square: the fortress is defined by its location and terrain, while the chapel and bell tower are defined by their construction history.

A legend is also associated with the Šišemka. According to local folklore, a water spirit lived near Hradčany at a footbridge over the stream. This tradition complements the architectural and archaeological traces with a local storytelling tradition and is linked to the same stream that flows through the village valley.

A Seasonal Occasion in October

Hradčanské Vlnky is a cross-country trail race held in October. The race offers a specific seasonal reason to visit, while the chapel, bell tower and fortress remains are local-history attractions regardless of the event date. The village also has a bus stop with a clock as a local landmark. If you are traveling for the race, check the dates for the relevant edition; October is the month when the event takes place, not a fixed date.
