Blatec combines a historic village layout with named cycling routes and the Blatecké Wine Festival. The village lies between the Morava to the east and the Blata to the west; the Romza stream also flows through Blatec. If you’re looking for a hotel in Blatec, local history, cycling and the wine festival can each offer a different focus for your stay. The details below can help you decide which interests to prioritize before booking.

Village History and Architectural Features

The original village was laid out around a rectangular village square. Two exits led east and west from the square; the historic layout is still visible in aerial photographs. The Chapel of St. Margaret (sv. Markéty) was first mentioned in 1804 and is probably older. It is a single-nave, plastered masonry building with a hipped roof covered in flat tiles. A prismatic tower with a pyramidal roof rises through the chapel’s west façade. The village layout and the chapel offer different historical perspectives: the plan of the village and the architectural form of a single religious building.

Waterways and Historical Connections

Along the Morava, within the landscape around Blatec, lies the Morava–Chropyňský luh Natura 2000 site. Across the Morava is Blatecký mlýn, a mill on the Morávka millrace, built in 1773. A visit to the area around Blatec can therefore include both a protected area along the river and a historic mill on the other side of the Morava.

Cycling and Getting There

Blatec lies on cycling route 6061 and route 4, the Moravská stezka. Both routes follow cycle lanes or local farm tracks. Check route conditions before setting out so you can take the surface into account when planning. The route names provide a general guide; the specific route also matters for your ride.

More than 100 cyclists took part in one edition of “Královstvím na kole.” In another edition, the start in Blatec was at the football pitch. If you’d like to combine your stay with a cycling event, check the dates for your travel period.

A 2024 municipal profile listed four bus connections between Olomouc and Tovačov, running through Blatec in both directions. Please check the current timetable for your travel dates.

The Blatecké Wine Festival

The second Blatecké Wine Festival took place on September 14, 2024, in the hall of the municipal building and featured twelve wines from the cellars of Čevelovice. Another traditional Blatecké Wine Festival was announced for the following year. In 2025, the festival reached its third edition. More than ten selected varieties of wine were served, with details about each wine and its story. If the festival is important to your travel plans, check the dates for your travel period.

The statue of St. Linhart is another named local landmark: it stands just beyond Blatec, on the left-hand side of the road toward Újezdec. The stated direction can help you find it; check the current roadside conditions when you arrive.
