Discover Šléglov through the landscape of the Staříč Valley and its layered local history. The Calvary group and the Řeznická Chapel above it offer tangible points of reference for the area’s cultural history; Kutný vrch connects the landscape with its mining history. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in the region, these different themes can help you choose a destination: perhaps you are particularly interested in historic sites, perhaps in the landscape, or perhaps in both.

Landscape and cycling route

Šléglov lies in a small valley carved into the upland plateau of the foothills of the Rychlebské hory by the Staříč stream, which rises there. Sightlines and viewpoints are also among the area’s landscape features. At 798 metres, Kutný vrch is the highest point in Šléglov’s cadastral area and is associated with a documented history of mining. This brings together two perspectives: the shape of the valley and a high point that is also connected with the local history of mining.

Cycling route 9 in the Staré Město area is about 28 kilometres long. It runs along roads and paved asphalt paths and passes through Šléglov. Its length and surfaces provide a concrete basis for understanding this cycling route; the stated distance refers to the route in the Staré Město area.

Řeznická Chapel and its surroundings

Řeznická Chapel is situated above Šléglov, near Staré Město in the Šumperk District. It offers views of the Králický Sněžník and Hrubý Jeseník mountain ranges. A blue-marked hiking trail passes the chapel and runs between Branná and Staré Město pod Sněžníkem. The routes provide different points of reference: the cycling route passes through Šléglov, while the hiking trail passes the chapel between the two places mentioned.

Calvary group and local history

The Calvary group below Dvorský vrch is a sandstone column beside a disused path. It includes a crucifix and figures of the Virgin Mary and Saint John. Another detail is the relief of Mary Magdalene with a vessel for fragrant ointment. The religious motifs can be seen in different parts of the group: the crucifix, the figures and the separate relief.

Šléglov has been mentioned in historical records since 1325. In the 16th century, the village appears again in records of settlements administered from Kolštejn Castle in Branná. After the upheavals of the Hussite and Bohemian–Hungarian wars, Šléglov was probably abandoned; documents described it as deserted. Mining is also part of the village’s history. One possible interpretation links it to the crushing and grinding of gold-bearing ores.

Birdlife in the wider regional area

Nature offers another way to experience the surroundings. In the wider regional area, the Králický Sněžník Special Protection Area protects the corncrake (Crex crex) and its habitat in extensively managed meadows. The Natura 2000 Special Protection Area is also associated with Šléglov as a local environmental asset. While sightlines and viewpoints describe the local landscape, here the focus is on a bird species and the protection of its meadow habitat.
