Velká Stáhle on the Moravice
Accommodation in Velká Stáhle
Velká Stáhle lies on both banks of the Moravice, just beyond its confluence with the Podolský potok. Its riverside setting, a railway line running through the village and its historical landmarks offer several specific starting points for planning your trip. Cultural history and cycling can be considered as separate interests when deciding whether the village is right for your stay.
Location and accommodation
The Rýmařov–Valšov railway line runs through Velká Stáhle. The municipal tourist accommodation U školky is 100 metres from the railway stop on this line and 400 metres from a bus stop. These distances provide a specific reference point for planning around your accommodation. If you are considering U školky, please confirm the accommodation details before booking.
Church, chapel and memorial sites
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built between 1576 and 1606 in the Late Gothic style by Jan Kobylka z Kobylí. Its tower offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding area. The Božího těla Chapel dates from 1927. Inside the chapel is the original Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk; two black marble plaques name 32 victims of the 1914–1918 war. The dates point to different historical periods: the church was built over several decades, the chapel dates to the 20th century, and the statue is from the Baroque period.
Industrial history and routes
Another part of the village’s history is the historic DDP 22 threshing machine. ED. LÖHNERT & SOHN manufactured it in Velká Stáhle between 1929 and 1939. It is displayed in the centre of the village, on the grounds of the kindergarten beside a cycling rest area with seating. If the threshing machine is a specific reason for your visit, check how it is currently displayed in advance, as local exhibition arrangements may change.
Route 6142 can be extended via Břidličná towards the Slezská Harta Reservoir. From Velká Stáhle, cyclists can also reach Malá Štáhle via a field track along the right bank of the Moravice. Trail conditions and markings may change; check them before setting out. Near Malá Štáhle, a nature trail passes through the remains of mining activity, with ponds, quarries and ravines. It includes a shared inline skating, cycling and walking route. This offers a choice of different route themes: a possible extension towards the reservoir, the connection to Malá Štáhle and a nature trail through a landscape shaped by mining.
A local path to a cross and a bell tower passes the church building and continues along a field track; at a junction, turn right. The Moravice Valley is designated as a European Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance.
