Kobeřice Ve Slezsku combines a setting in rolling hills with notable examples of church and folk architecture. Kobeřice lies in the Hlučínská pahorkatina hills, in the valley of the Bílý potok, also called the Oldřišovský potok. Kobeřice is part of the Hlučínsko cultural region. The historic buildings, cycling routes and a distinctive dry grassland habitat offer different points of interest to consider when planning your trip.

Church Architecture and Folk Architecture

The Neo-Gothic church Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie was built in 1895 and 1896 on the site of an older wooden church. Its 52-metre-high tower is as notable a feature as its three-aisled floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross. The church has a Stations of the Cross with 14 stations in Gothic frames, made by the C. Buhla workshop in Breslau. Both the building’s exterior dimensions and the design of the Stations of the Cross are key features of this church.

A different aspect of building history is represented by the group of timber granaries on Mlýnská Street. The 13 granaries date from the 18th and 19th centuries and are recognised as examples of folk architecture. The oldest dates from 1777. The church and granaries therefore offer different points of interest: on the one hand, a Neo-Gothic religious building with a detailed floor plan; on the other, a group of rural utility buildings whose ages span several decades.

Smaller buildings also contribute to the character of the area. The chapel Kaple svatého Urbana stands beneath a centuries-old, broad-spreading lime tree in the western part of the Kobeřice parish area. The chapel Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice lies between Kobeřice and Rohov. Čujkův mlýn is designated in Kobeřice as a technical monument and mill complex.

Festive Traditions Around 15 August

Koberský odpust is an annual three-day weekend festival held around 15 August. Its date is connected with the feast day of the patron saint of Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie. The recurring programme includes an amusement park, market stalls, an extensive cultural programme and screenings at the summer cinema. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the specific dates and current programme in advance: both may be important for planning your stay.

Cycling Routes and Natural Environment

The 16-kilometre cycling route 6054 runs from Velké Hoštice through Chlebičov, Oldřišov and Služovice, past St. Urban to Kobeřice, and onwards to Střední Dvůr and Albertovec. The 14-kilometre cycling route 552 on Czech territory runs from Opava to Racibórz via Kobeřice and the Strahovice/Krzanowice border crossing. It runs away from roads used by motor vehicles. The two routes differ in length and course: route 6054 continues beyond Kobeřice, while route 552 includes the border crossing. Route information can change, so check the current signage before setting out.

A different way to experience the landscape is to visit the Kobeřické motýlí stráně: these are warmth-loving dry grasslands on a slope of the gypsum quarry near Kobeřice. Protected and endangered species occur there, and the area is also home to up to 32 species of day-flying butterflies. This information describes the habitat, not a particular sighting during your visit. While sheep are grazing, do not enter fenced areas; follow the current conditions on site.

Whether you are mainly interested in architecture, a festival, a cycling route or this distinctive habitat, Kobeřice Ve Slezsku offers several clearly different themes to consider when planning your trip. When looking for a hotel, you can start by deciding which aspect of your stay matters most.
