Dolni Lomna can be explored through several themes: the Lomňanské Museum preserves the historical heritage of its residents, educational trails explore the history of nature and human life, and the URSUS Centrum introduces visitors to the mountain ecosystem. There are also viewpoints, a waterfall and activities in the Lomná Valley. When planning your stay, you can first consider whether you are most interested in cultural history, learning about nature or outdoor activities.

The Lomňanské Museum and its collection

The Lomňanské Museum is housed in the wooden building of Lomná’s original school, dating from 1852. Its collection includes chronicles, photo albums, recordings of older residents and original exhibits relating to the historical heritage of Lomná’s residents. Written and photographic memories are thus displayed alongside recorded voices and objects. Every year, the museum hosts horse-drawn carriage races, an autumn market, and Easter and Christmas exhibitions. There are also exhibitions of nativity scenes and historical photographs. Specific dates may vary, so check them before your trip.

Educational trails through forest and history

The Mionší Educational Trail runs along the edge of the Mionší primeval forest. The forest is protected as a national nature reserve and is considered one of the best-preserved forest complexes in the Moravian part of the Western Carpathians. The information centre in Dolni Lomna is also a starting point for the municipality’s educational trails. The Stezka krajinou dávných horalů begins at the information centre on Matyščina louka and is particularly suitable for walkers. Seven wooden panels along the route offer insights into the lives of people who lived there more than 100 years ago. The topics mainly relate to occupations associated with working in the forest.

Learning about nature, viewpoints and a waterfall

The three-metre-high Jestřábí vodopád lies on a small tributary of the Jestřábí potok stream. Another way to experience nature is from the Rozhledna Tetřev lookout tower, which offers views across the surrounding mountain ridges and valleys of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. The tower also houses an indoor exhibition about the local fauna and flora. The URSUS Centrum focuses on the local mountain ecosystem. It is presented through a 3D film about the Beskids, an interactive display of local fauna, a large model of the Beskids and an interactive garden. The centre also offers environmental programmes, including outdoor explorations, for children, families and the general public.

Activities and further insights

In the heart of Dolni Lomna is the wooden Zbojnická stezka complex. It tells the story of robbers, the history of the Lomná Valley and the people who lived there. The complex includes a rope course, a climbing wall, slides, climbing frames and wood carvings to view. Cyclists and inline skaters use the cycle path in the Lomná Valley; in winter, when conditions are suitable, it serves as a cross-country ski trail. The Zemědělský dvorek includes a wooden shepherd’s hut with an exhibition of traditional sheep’s-milk products.
