In Svijany, castle history, brewing culture and routes for cultural excursions and cycling come together. If you are looking for hotels for a stay in Svijany, it helps to consider the activities you have planned: Would you like to attend a tour at a set time, explore exhibitions or include a cycling route? The activities differ in their themes, duration and route length.

Castle Exhibitions and Night Tours

Open to the public, Zámek Svijany offers exhibitions on archaeology, the history of the castle and its surroundings, and the history of brewing. Further exhibitions are located in the underground areas and in the castle chapel. The archaeological themes range from the Bronze Age to the Neolithic: the Bronze Age exhibition includes a bronze hoard; another exhibition is devoted to the Neolithic and Eduard Štorch.

From May to October, two-hour night tours are held with archaeologist Mgr. Petr BrestovanskĂ˝. The focus is on stories and archaeological discoveries. If you are planning to attend one of these tours, check the specific dates before you travel. The seasonal period and the date of an individual tour are two separate details to consider when planning.

Brewery History and Tour

The history of Svijany Brewery dates back to 1564. In its production, it uses the two-mash decoction method typical of Czech beer. Public guided brewery tours last about 60 minutes and show the brewing processes. Unfiltered beer can also be sampled straight from a lager tank. As operational details affect the tour, check the current arrangements before your visit.

The two tours differ considerably in the time they require: the night castle tour lasts two hours, while the brewery tour takes about one hour. They also have different focuses—archaeological stories on the one hand, and brewing processes and a possible tasting on the other.

Memorial Site and Educational Trail

The restored military cemetery in Svijany commemorates the events of the Austro-Prussian War on June 26, 1866. The site includes four monuments and an entrance gate; the cemetery serves as a memorial site for residents and visitors. It adds a specific historical dimension to the archaeological and brewing history themes.

The První naučná stezka Svijany is an educational trail with six stops and a length of up to 0.5 kilometres. It starts at the D10 underpass in the lower part of the municipality and runs through Svijany along the main road, passing Pivovar Svijany and Zámek Svijany. It ends at the upper edge of the village by the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The trail also points to the Žabakor Nature Reserve in the nearby area, where rare bird species can be observed.

Greenway Jizera and Cycling Plans

On October 2, 2025, the F101.2 section of the Greenway Jizera opened in Svijany. It connects a previously completed route through Kabeláčová Garden towards the main road and forms a middle section of the connection between the municipalities and local cycling routes. Check route conditions before setting out.

Further afield in the region, the Greenway Jizera runs along the Jizera River. The route is suitable for cyclists, walkers and families, connects natural landscapes with cultural monuments, and offers activities for visitors of various age groups. When planning your visit to Svijany, it is useful to distinguish this regional route from the specific local stops: the educational trail describes a walk through the municipality, while F101.2 is a section of the cycling network.
