Jestřebí near Česká Lípa offers you two distinct themes to consider when planning your trip: Novozámecký Pond as a nature reserve, and the building history of Jestřebí and Újezd. When choosing a hotel destination, first consider whether the protected landscape or the historic buildings better match your travel interests.

Novozámecký Pond: Nature Reserve and Pond Landscape

Novozámecký Pond is a national nature reserve. It protects species-rich aquatic, wetland and forest ecosystems with numerous water and wetland birds. The pond is also the final link in the Jestřebsko-Dokesko pond system built along the Mlýnský Stream. Nature and landscape history thus come together in a single theme: the reserve status describes the habitats, while the pond's place in the system gives it historical context.

A yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the northern shore of Novozámecký Pond, on the boundary of the municipality of Jestřebí. In 2013, a birdwatching station and a viewing pier were built at the pond. The trail provides a specific route along the northern shore; the nature reserve represents the broader context of ecosystems and birdlife. The station and pier add birdwatching and views to these landscape themes.

Building History in Jestřebí and Újezd

The Church of St. Andrew in Jestřebí was built in 1780–1781 as a new late Baroque building. It followed the town fire of 1768, which destroyed the previous church. Opposite the church stands a Baroque rectory dating from 1730. The church was built twelve years after the town fire.

In Újezd, now part of the municipality of Jestřebí, stands the rural Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, built in 1730. It is a centrally planned building with a circular floor plan; its small tower is topped by a bell, a dome and a cross. The year 1730 thus appears in connection with both the rectory opposite the church and the chapel in Újezd: the same construction date, but different locations and functions.

Below the Jestřebí cemetery is a group of four cellars carved into the sandstone slope. One bears the year 1816 on its lintel. The cemetery grounds themselves include an Ionic column with an iron cross dating from 1826. The distinction in location is useful: the cellars are below the cemetery, while the column is on the cemetery grounds.

Seasonal Access to the Castle

Jestřebí Castle is open to visitors from 1 April to 31 October of each calendar year. If visiting the castle is important to you, plan your travel dates and hotel booking for a time within this period. This allows you to take the seasonal access dates into account when choosing when to travel.
