In Janovice v Podještědí, regional cycling and hiking routes meet a varied architectural history. When planning a stay, you can consider two questions separately: Which routes suit your plans, and are you more interested in the houses, the chapel, or the rock formations?

Cycling and Hiking Routes through Janovice v Podještědí

Long-distance cycling route No. 241 passes through Janovice v Podještědí. The 49-kilometre route runs from Petrovice via Jablonné v Podještědí, Stráž pod Ralskem and Mimoň to Mukařov. Its total length, several intermediate towns and two endpoints clearly define the route. Another regional cycling route, No. 3046, connects Janovice v Podještědí in the direction of Křižany and Hamr na Jezeře.

There is also a marked route for walkers: a yellow-marked hiking trail runs through Janovice v Podještědí from Jablonné v Podještědí to PP Stříbrník. The three route descriptions differ in their mode of travel and course: route No. 241 is described as a 49-kilometre route with several stops, route No. 3046 points in two directions, and the hiking trail has a named starting point and destination. When planning your trip, you can take the type of route and its direction into account.

Half-Timbered Construction, Log Building and Distinctive House Forms

Janovice 29 dates from the early 19th century and is partly built using log construction. Its half-timbered upper floor is supported by a Umgebinde structure. The roof also features a distinctive design: fired beaver-tail tiles and glazed tiles form geometric patterns. Log construction and half-timbering define different parts of the house, with the Umgebinde supporting the half-timbered upper floor.

Janovice 75 was built in the first half of the 19th century. The single-storey house, partly built using log construction, has a three-part floor plan that was extended by a later masonry section at the chamber. The gabled roof has a continuous dormer and two gabled dormers. In comparison with Janovice 29, the focus here is on the floor plan and roof structure as well as the log construction. The two houses thus offer different architectural points of interest: one has a half-timbered upper floor and patterned tiles, while the other features its room layout and dormers.

The Chapel and Sandstone Formations

The chapel in Janovice v Podještědí is a square, plastered building with sandstone foundations and an octagonal bell turret. It was built as a new stone chapel on 24 June 1753; its solemn consecration followed on 14 October 1754. Construction and consecration are two distinct milestones in its history and took place on different dates.

The Janovické poustevny consist of several sandstone rocks with rooms and niches carved into them. The rock formations in the cadastral area of Janovice v Podještědí resemble the landscape of Český ráj in appearance. Both the carved rocks and the architectural forms of the houses are among the features that give the place its historical and natural character.

Choose the Focus of Your Stay

If you are looking for hotels in Janovice v Podještědí, you can start by choosing according to the focus of your trip. Cycling routes No. 241 and No. 3046 connect different places and directions; the marked hiking trail runs from Jablonné v Podještědí to PP Stříbrník. If you are interested in architecture and local history, there are two houses with different architectural styles, the chapel and its construction dates, and the sandstone formations. The routes and historical features can thus serve as different points of interest for your stay.
