When planning a trip to Dubá, you’ll encounter two distinct themes: traces of hop processing and architectural history, as well as a landscape of forests, gorges and sandstone rocks. This combination can help you decide whether to focus your stay more on culture, nature or both.

Landscape on the edge of the protected area

Dubá lies on the boundary of the Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area (CHKO) and is surrounded by varied scenery, with forests and gorges among sandstone rocks. The wider area is also characterised by meadows and pastures, rare animal and plant species, and cultural monuments. This regional perspective complements Dubá’s specific buildings with a connection to nature and the landscape.

Hop processing and architectural history

The Sušárna chmele is a technical monument of national importance that connects Dubá with its hop-growing history. At the height of hop cultivation, there were six hop dryers; the Sušárna chmele is the only one preserved in its original condition. The building can be safely used by visitors only after its floors have been renovated. Before visiting, check whether the floor renovation has been completed.

The Baroque Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice is also one of the town’s historical landmarks. It was erected in Dubá’s square in 1726 to commemorate a plague epidemic and a town fire. Its sculptural ensemble depicts the Holy Trinity and the Virgin Mary. The column was built in 1726, before work began on the church in 1744.

Kostel Nalezení svatého Kříže is a protected architectural monument dating from the 18th century. Construction lasted from 1744 to 1760. The church has a unified Rococo interior dating from around 1755, from the workshops of František Adámek and Jan Chládek. The Skalní sklípky, cellars carved into the rock, add another dimension: they are an integral part of the historic built environment and show how creatively natural conditions were used.

Routes with different courses

The Hradská stezka begins in Dubá and passes the Čap rock outcrop, then continues via Zámecký vrch and Dřevčice to Chudý hrádek; from there, it runs into the basin of the Holanské rybníky. The Prokopská spojka takes a different course: it connects the Mlýnská stezka to Dubá via a well-known statue and the Sušárna chmele hop dryer. The routes therefore differ mainly in their stated destinations and connections. As trail conditions can change, check the situation before setting out.

Focus your search on the themes you’d like to explore in Dubá.
