Brniště brings together a range of things to enjoy during a stay: short educational trails, a longer trail that introduces nature and life around ponds and streams, a viewpoint, and historic sites. When looking for a hotel for your trip, you can decide whether to focus on hiking trails, nature, or culture. The lengths and themes of the trails described here offer concrete points of reference.

Educational Trails and Routes of Different Lengths

The Stezka Hastrmanů introduces nature and life around ponds and streams. Nine themed stops explore these subjects with original play features. There is also a water playground and opportunities to observe water birds. At about six kilometres, this is the longest of the trails described here; it is also accessible with a stroller. Terrain conditions may change seasonally, even though the trail is accessible with a stroller.

A shorter educational trail is the Stezka živým lesem, also known as Lesopark Brniště. It is 0.6 kilometres long, near Brniště railway station, and opened in July 2020. Six educational and playful stops focus on life in the forest and forest animals. Its forest theme distinguishes it from the Stezka Hastrmanů, which centres on ponds and streams.

The Stezka Sochy ve skalách is 1.2 kilometres long. It includes a rest area beside a chapel that was rediscovered in 1863. In terms of length, this trail falls between the 0.6-kilometre Lesopark and the approximately six-kilometre Stezka Hastrmanů; the rest area by the chapel adds a historical connection to the route.

Views, Art and Pond Landscapes

The Skleněná stezka features works by Bořek Šípek, Jiří Pačinek, and Czech and German children. The trail leads to the Schröterova chapel on the hill above the town, where visitors can enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape. This route thus brings together artworks by different groups of creators and a viewpoint. Please follow local guidance when accessing the surrounding area.

A sandstone sculpture of the water sprite “Vráťa I. a Jediný” stands beside the centrally located Vratislav pond. The pond is also a habitat for a variety of aquatic plants, animals, and insects. An artwork and a rich habitat come together here: the sculpture provides a named focal point, while the pond is also a natural feature of Brniště.

Church of Saint Nicholas and Historic Traces

The Church of Saint Nicholas is a historic landmark in the town. It was first officially mentioned in 1384, although it probably already stood there in 1359. The Church of Saint Nicholas and the site of the former fortress include an old cemetery with preserved gravestones, an enclosing wall with a gate, and a mortuary chapel. The church, cemetery, and associated structures each reveal a different aspect of the historic site.
