Nové Město: Ski Area, Pilgrimage Route and Chapels
Accommodation in Nové Město
Different travel interests come together in Nové Město: the Novako Jáchymov ski area offers downhill runs, the old pilgrimage route passes through the village, and two late Baroque chapels add historic character. The local options differ in terms of activity, route and the features of the buildings. When choosing a hotel, you can take the focus of your trip into account.
Downhill runs at the Novako Jáchymov ski area
The Novako Jáchymov ski area in Nové Město has a total of 4 km of downhill runs of all difficulty levels. For travellers whose focus is skiing, the total length and difficulty levels provide concrete points of reference: they describe the extent and challenge of the runs. This makes it possible to distinguish the sporting options from the walking and cultural themes described here.
The old pilgrimage route through Nové Město
The old pilgrimage route leads from Jáchymov via Nové Město to Mariánská. On its section through Nové Město, it passes the Chapel of Panny Marie Altöttingské and the Chapel of Panny Marie Bolestné. Between the village’s houses and trees, the route offers views of Klínovec and Neklid. The route can therefore be understood both by its course between three places and by the chapels and viewpoints along its section through the village. For planning a walk, the route through the village and the specific features of the section in Nové Město are two distinct points of reference.
Two late Baroque chapels
Both chapels, Panny Marie Bolestné and Panny Marie Altöttingské, are late Baroque and were built in the second half of the 18th century. Their shared style and period link them, while their locations clearly distinguish the buildings within the village. Panny Marie Bolestné stands by house no. 4 on the road to Mariánská, in the centre of Nové Město. Panny Marie Altöttingské is situated on a small hill above the road, at the lower eastern edge of the village. This offers a clear comparison for finding your way: for one chapel, the house number, road and central location are specified; for the other, the hill and eastern edge of the village. The grounds around both chapels are accessible. At Panny Marie Bolestné, please follow the conditions on site.
Jáchymovské peklo educational trail
The Jáchymovské peklo educational trail is 8.5 km long and has twelve information stations. It passes a system of ponds built for mining. Its length, stations and mining connection give the trail its own character. The difference compared with the old pilgrimage route is clear: Jáchymovské peklo combines a measured distance and information stations with a mining theme; the pilgrimage route, by contrast, focuses on the course between Jáchymov, Nové Město and Mariánská, as well as chapels and views. This lets you distinguish the two routes by their different themes and features.
