Discover Záměl: Trails, Nature and History
Accommodation in Záměl
There are several specific points of interest to choose from when planning a trip to Záměl: the Planetary Trail, the nearby Zámělský borek Nature Reserve, and historic buildings and connections. These are complemented by the annual group walk to the local springs on 1 May and Záměl railway station, with its ticket sales arrangements. These topics offer different areas of focus. When planning your trip, consider whether a route, nature, local history, a specific date or travelling by rail is most important to you.
The Planetary Trail and its route
The Planetary Trail was established in 2011 and is approximately six kilometres long. It runs from an inn on the outskirts of Záměl via the Panna Marie Bolestná forest spring to Potštejn, and then along an asphalt road to the Nad Merklovicemi trail junction. This means that both the approximate route and several named points along the way are part of your planning. If you would like to include the route in your trip, check current trail markings and conditions before setting out. The stated length is an approximate guide, not an exact measurement.
Nature around Záměl
The Zámělský borek Nature Reserve is located near Záměl. Its habitats include warm-loving grasslands and woodland edges; several rare plant and animal species are also found there. For nature enthusiasts, these specific habitats and species offer a different focus from the named route of the Planetary Trail: the trail focuses on route sections and destinations, while the reserve focuses on the habitats described and their plant and animal life.
Buildings, local history and orientation
The former Hostinec u Karla IV. inn is Záměl’s only cultural monument. The entrance gate and the reed roof on the building have been repaired; the main room contains an original bread oven. The gate and roof offer a glimpse of the building’s exterior, while the oven gives you a view of the main room.
The Lípa vorařů is associated with raft building in its surroundings and the transportation of rafts along the Orlice and Labe rivers as far as Hamburg. This historical connection shifts the focus from an individual building to raft building and river transport. The Kostelík sv. Marka and the hill called Marek are also important for orientation: the church stands on the hill, while the Hastrmanka Manka figure is located at a spring below it.
Events and public programmes
Putování ke Studánkám was revived in Záměl in 2003. On 1 May, the tradition takes the form of a group walk to the local springs. If this date is decisive for your trip, check that year’s programme in advance.
The public also took part in the horticultural therapy programmes, lectures and workshops at Zahrada Dobromysl. If you would like to plan your trip around such an activity, check in advance whether any dates are currently being offered.
Travelling by rail
Záměl railway station is integrated into the regional IREDO transport system. Tickets are not sold at the station; passengers can buy them on the train. Take this into account when preparing for your journey, and check the latest service information before setting off.
