For planning your trip, Nemyčeves offers two distinct themes: cultural history and outdoor activities in the surrounding landscape. At the Church of St. Peter and Paul, a Baroque building stands on the foundations of an earlier Gothic structure; remains of a fortress that already existed in 1392 have also been preserved. Outdoors, you can enjoy views of Velíš and Zebín, as well as opportunities for hiking and cycling. This lets you assess the town according to the themes that matter for your stay.

Church of St. Peter and Paul

The Church of St. Peter and Paul is a single-nave Baroque building, erected by the Jesuits around 1721 on the foundations of an earlier Gothic structure. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the term “Baroque” places the building in a later period. The Gothic foundations also point to an earlier structure on the site. This allows the floor plan, construction phase, and predecessor building to be considered as distinct aspects of the church’s history.

In 1900 and 1901, the church was restored with murals by J. Podlipný. A Baroque oratory is located on the upper floor. The timeline therefore runs from the Gothic foundations, through the construction of the Baroque building, to the restoration around 1900; the oratory adds an architectural detail on the upper floor.

Remains of the fortifications

Another historical reference dates back to 1392, when a fortress already stood in Nemyčeves. A small part of the central area of the fortifications and raised ground beneath Blockhouse No. 100 and in its garden have been preserved. The church and the fortress offer different historical perspectives: for the church, you can distinguish between its construction phases and restoration; for the fortifications, the focus is on their early existence and the form of the remains that have survived. This distinction helps you see the two themes as different ways of approaching the town’s history.

Landscape, hiking and cycling

From Nemyčeves, you can enjoy views of the nearby hills of Velíš and Zebín. The surrounding countryside offers opportunities for hiking and cycling. These named hills provide specific landmarks in the landscape, while hiking and cycling offer an active way to spend time outdoors. If you would like to include time in nature alongside the historical sights, this area offers a different perspective on the town.

Which themes suit your trip?

The church and fortress represent different historical periods and architectural forms, while the views and opportunities for hiking and cycling shift the focus to the landscape. Mariánská zahrada extends this connection with nature to the wider region. This lets you consider Nemyčeves as a destination for cultural history, outdoor activities, or a combination of both.
