In Lišice, the story ranges from local history connected with the painter Vincenc Beneš to archaeological traces near Vyšehrad. Tečmín, a longer route in the area, and Farma Lišice, which focuses on sport fishing, also offer different starting points for planning. Consider whether you are most interested in cultural history, a longer outing, or sport fishing.

Lišice and its local history

Liščí kopec is 267 metres high and lies on the route from Chlumec nad Cidlinou to Lišice, about 400 metres before the entrance to the village. This makes it easy to place the hill in context when exploring the area: it lies just before the entrance to the village along this route.

The painter Vincenc Beneš, a representative of Czech Cubism, is associated with Lišice. He was born here on 22 January 1883. A commemorative plaque was installed on the former Lišice school building to mark the 110th anniversary of his birth. It was designed by Jan Holinka, an academic sculptor from Pardubice. The plaque commemorates the painter Vincenc Beneš, who was born in Lišice.

The Pálení čarodějnic festival was also celebrated in Lišice: three consecutive years are listed for 2024, 2025, and 2026. If you would like to plan your stay around this festival, check the dates for your year of travel.

Tečmín and the traces near Vyšehrad

The former settlement of Tečmín, near Lišice, is documented for the period from 1299 to 1454; it no longer exists as a village. Tečmín had three ponds and a fortified manor. In 1571, the place was mentioned only as pastureland and as a hillfort with ramparts and a moat. The differing historical accounts give an impression of how the record of a place can change: from a settlement name and manor to a description of pastureland and fortifications.

Near Vyšehrad is an extensive hillfort site dating from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, dated approximately to the 7th century BC. Archaeological investigations began there in 1956. They revealed the extensive ground plan of an oppidum, as well as iron tools, animal bones, domestic pottery, and charred beams. For those interested in history, both the site’s historical context and its specific finds are of interest.

Routes and practical planning

From Lišice towards Lišičky, access is via a paved road and then along the first surfaced turnoff to Vyšehrad. The only building there is a former forester’s lodge. From Vyšehrad, the route reaches Rybník Hejlovec; a burial site is believed to be near the pond. This uncertainty is part of how the place should be understood: the burial site is not described as a reliably located point to visit.

A longer route in the Lišice area is approximately 20 kilometres long. Dry weather is recommended, as forestry machinery may use the forest tracks. The approximate distance is a useful guide when setting aside time for a longer outing. Also bear in mind the recommendation for dry conditions, rather than planning the route without regard to the state of the forest tracks.

Farma Lišice and finding a hotel

Farma Lišice is on the edge of the municipality of Lišice, near the town of Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and focuses primarily on sport fishing. The fenced area covers just under four hectares. It contains a former sand-pit pond measuring 1.25 hectares, stocked with trophy fish. If you are considering a visit or a fishing opportunity, check the current visitor and operating arrangements in advance.

Then compare the specific details of each hotel offer, especially its location and amenities. This lets you choose according to your plans without assuming that an offer includes features it does not mention.
