Discover Kounov
Accommodation in Kounov
Kounov lies in the valley of the Zlatý potok and Hlucký potok rivers. For your trip planning, the village offers two distinct highlights: local cultural history and routes through the municipal planning area.
Local History Between Castle and Craftsmanship
The former Kounov Castle stood on a promontory above the confluence of the Zlatý potok and Hlucký potok rivers. Several traditional wooden buildings from the 19th century have been preserved in Kounov. Local linen weaving was traditionally practised here, and the village also has a history of iron ore mining. Its history therefore spans a former castle site, preserved wooden architecture, crafts and resource extraction.
The Castle Ruins near Hluky
The remains of Hluky Castle lie above Hluky, a district of Kounov, about 300 metres along Road 309 towards Deštné. The foundation of a defensive tower can be made out on a conical hill; nothing remains of the former palace. Check local access conditions before visiting.
Cycling and Hiking Trails in the Municipal Planning Area
Regional cycle route 4243 runs through the planning area of the municipality of Kounov. Its route goes from Skuhrov nad Bělou via Prázova Bouda and Šediviny-kostel to Plasnice-Úhor. The sequence of named points helps you include the cycle route in your plans and keep track of its course beyond Kounov.
Three green-marked KČT trails with different routes are described for hiking. Along the northwestern edge of the planning area, the long trail runs from Dobruška via Bačetín and the Dědina valley to Dobřany, or onwards to the castle ruins. Also along the northwestern edge, the short green-marked trail runs from the church in Šediviny via Špičák to the Plasnice-Úhor signpost.
Along the southeastern edge of the planning area, the medium-length green-marked KČT hiking trail runs from the Kounov-Šediviny-odb. Práz. Bouda stop, past the Bažiny nature reserve and uphill to Prázova Bouda. Bažiny lies outside the actual Kounov locality. The long, medium and short designations distinguish the hiking trails; their respective locations along the edges, starting points and waypoints also help you tell the routes apart. One initial point of reference is the marking: the regional cycle route is numbered 4243, while the three KČT hiking trails are marked green. This lets you distinguish the cycle connection from the hiking trails by their designations before comparing their individual starting and end points.
