Water features and historic landmarks offer different points of interest during your stay in Vodranty. The Klejnárka and Nový rybník are distinct as a stream and a pond; Křížek, Kaplička and the Československá lípa svobody represent different aspects of local history. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Vodranty, you can consider whether you would prefer to combine your stay with nature or history.

Klejnárka, Weir and Nový rybník

The Klejnárka stream flows through the area of Vodranty. At the weir on the Klejnárka, water plunges six metres between steep rock walls. The drop and the rock walls give this place a striking landscape. Locals often visit the weir for walks with children or dogs. The riverside scenery and its local use as a place for walks thus go hand in hand.

Nový rybník lies southwest of Vodranty, on the boundary between the cadastral areas of Vodranty and Souňov. Its location differs from that of the Klejnárka, which flows through the area of Vodranty: for the pond, the compass direction and cadastral boundary are the geographical reference points. This makes it possible to distinguish the two water features by their type and location.

Locals and residents of nearby communities used Nový rybník for swimming during the summer months. At the same time, the water quality has deteriorated. This is due in particular to reduced water inflow and decaying deposits of leaves and branches from the mature trees around the pond. Check the conditions again before planning a swim. Its former summer use and current water quality should be considered separately when planning a visit.

Křížek, Kaplička and the Linden Tree

Křížek stands at a crossroads about 200 metres beyond Vodranty in the direction of Močovice, shaded by two mature linden trees. The memorial dates from 1880 and was donated by Marie Vařečková from Vodranty. Its location, trees and dedication offer different points of reference: they locate it, describe its surroundings and name its donor.

Křížek was restored in spring 2018. The memorial was cleaned, and the statue of Jesus Christ was regilded with gold leaf. The donation in 1880 and a much later restoration thus mark distinct periods in the history of this site.

Kaplička probably dates from the second half of the 19th century. A footpath was built from the road to the entrance doors of the bell tower. Unlike the dating of Křížek, its date is approximate; the path and the bell tower’s entrance doors, on the other hand, are concrete architectural points of reference.

The Československá lípa svobody was planted in Vodranty in May 1920. On 28 October 1946, it was replanted in the same place. The linden tree is therefore associated with the month and year of its first planting and an exact date for its replanting. Together with the probable dating of Kaplička and the dates associated with Křížek, this gives a nuanced picture of the different historical time references.
