Rohozec lies in the Polabí Lowland between the historic towns of Kutná Hora and Čáslav. The village combines medieval religious architecture with a 19th-century residential building, along with recurring events organized by local associations and a marked cycle route. If you are looking for accommodation in Rohozec, these themes can help you get a sense of the cultural and active focus of your stay.

Church of St. Mary Magdalene: Building History and Architecture

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene is a protected cultural monument; it has been protected since May 3, 1958. Its original chapel dates from the last quarter of the 13th century or from around the turn of the 14th century. Both dates place the origins of the religious building in the Middle Ages.

The single-nave, east-oriented building has a square presbytery spanned by a cross-ribbed vault. The presbytery is the liturgical area of the church; its square shape describes the layout of the space. A cross-ribbed vault, in turn, is a type of ceiling vault in which ribs intersect. This means you can observe both the church’s floor plan and its vault design—two different aspects of its architecture.

St. Mary Magdalene is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Chotusice. If you plan to attend a service, check the parish’s current information in advance.

A Historic Residential Building in the Village

House No. 25 is one of the oldest residential buildings in Rohozec and dates from around the mid-19th century. Part of the log structure is hidden beneath a thick layer of limewash. As a result, the house does not reveal its entire construction at first glance: the wall surface conceals part of the building method.

The widening chimney also offers a clue to the building’s former use. It suggests that a smokehouse was once installed there. House No. 25 thus brings together two different aspects of rural architecture: the concealed log construction and a possible former use that can be inferred from the shape of the chimney.

Associations and Recurring Events

The ultralight flying club in Rohozec regularly organizes three events throughout the year: a model aircraft competition on May 1, a traditional gathering of ultralights and other aircraft on the first Saturday in August, and an autumn kite-flying event in late October or early November. The events therefore take place from spring through autumn. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the specific date in advance.

TJ Sokol Rohozec co-organizes the events Rohozecká vlaštovka and Adventní setkání. During the season, members of TJ Sokol Rohozec also regularly meet with children at the multi-purpose sports court for ball games. These club activities range from community events to seasonal gatherings at the court.

Cycle Route and Regional Cultural Connections

Marked cycle route No. 0113 runs through Rohozec and continues through Žehušice, Bojmany, Vlačice, Vrdy, Žleby, and Zehuby. Rohozec is therefore part of a named cycling corridor connecting several places.

The Empire-style Kačina Chateau is also part of the historic surroundings: Rohozec is located nearby. The church, residential building, and chateau represent different historical themes of the region—from religious architectural history and 19th-century housing to an Empire-style chateau.
